I cant believe the new booth has lasted so long. Johnny ran Johnnys into the ground in 18 months. Figured his next venture would follow.

That's going on in just about every college town. There's so much money to be made. There's not much you can do to stop it at this point. I hope many of the staples remain, but I can't say I don't like seeing the progress Tuscaloosa has seen and will continue to see in the coming years.

JD's?

I'm sure that's the next place to be demolished. I'm sure they can replace it with an Applebee's or a some chain burrito joint.

Pretty sure Johnny tightened up his life and sold his share along with the other old school Booth guys who had a share with him in the new one. I think it's completely new management.

A bar guaranteeing live music every night of the week and great drink prices will always succeed in a college town.

Lived across from the corner store for a year (Burke, 06-07) and never went there.

I lived in the yellow house directly behind JD's for two years. They had ribs on sundays during the summer that were better than Archibald's.

Bold statement, but true.

Tuscaloosa needs more of it too.

Good. He is a really nice guy, but raising a kid in a college bar always seemed like a bad idea.

I knew another one if his partners, dude also used to own a part of Gallettes. Name is John too. Total piece of shite.

I lived back in that neighborhood. On 7th st. Remember the ribs, but never tried them.

Harry's doesn't play anymore. One of my friends is a manager and I went to see them a few months back and they had a swiper now, so not a good idea to go if you're under.

it's totally torn down. I read that it will be landscaped until a suitable use can be determined.

I don't really like all this change over the few years since I graduated.... heck, one of my fav places... Badass Coffee changed twice. It was Strip Teas (get it, tea) and now it's soft serve TCBY.

One new place on the strip i DO like though; I'm told there's a Chipotle now, right across the street from Moe's. I await, the imminent burrito war!

Damn. I went to The Corner thousands of times when I lived in Tutwiler and when I lived in the Alpha Gam house.

Cigarettes were $1.80 a pack back in the day.

I know things grow and progress happens but the campus is SO different from when I was there.

shite, just the size of the student body has doubled. It was 18,000 when I was there.

Makes me a little sad.

The Tusk, The Varsity, The Booth, Nicks on the Strip, Solomons - all gone.

Are Tut's and The Cycle Path still on the strip?

Corner Store will be back. A parking deck is being built there and it will be at the bottom.

I liked the Corner Store. I use to go there every now and then when I lived in Burke my freshmen year.

Cathy Andreen, director of Media Relations for UA, said that after the demolition is complete, the space will be landscaped until a future use for the lot is determined based on the campus master plan.

What are they gonna build more sorority houses or something? I know they are all on the other side of the street, but they are so packed in there I don't know how they would make space for any new ones.

The University has been trying to buy up property for decades, so they pounce when they can. I hate to see it go, but it doesn't surprise me anymore.

They've been on a mission for years to remove the bad perception that "The Stripe" had. They would love nothing more than to see all of the drinking establishments moved out and relocated elsewhere. Look like they are getting what they ultimately want.
