The Corner Store seems to have met the same sad demise of The Booth today.

Sad times in Tuscaloosa.

Nothing is sacred anymore. If The University doesn't like your business it will acquire it and demolish it.

The booth closed? When? And I thought the corner store was just closed for upgrades

The real Booth on University across from Publix was demolished in 2006.

There is an imposter downtown.

Saw a picture today and it's totally torn down. I read that it will be landscaped until a suitable use can be determined.

The University has been trying to buy up property for decades, so they pounce when they can. I hate to see it go, but it doesn't surprise me anymore.

It closed when I was still a student at Alabama. Sometime during the 2005-2006 school year. Now there's a new one downtown, but the original has been gone for some time.

Oh well, it was a dump anyways. Think I went in there twice while at Bama...

Price you pay to upgrade the entire campus.

Or if they don't like your business they use Imminent Domain to acquire your property and demolish it to fit their plan.

I guess you can look at it how you want to, but I don't think it is a coincidence that Downtown has seen a revitalization since many of the bars were targeted, starting in 2003. I hated to see some of them go, but I also love that Downtown is night and day what it was when I was a freshman in 2001.

I don't know. When I lived in Tuscaloosa I never went Downtown or really wanted to go downtown because everything I needed or wanted was walking distance to the neighborhoods that surrounded campus. that was a major draw for me when I was choosing where to go to school and I know it was a major draw for a lot of my friends. Old Tuscaloosa charm is being replaced with chain businesses and American suburban sprawl and I don't really like it.
