All I want is someone back there who can catch it and not fumble. We didn't have that last year.
I agree with your statement... In my opinion, this might be far fetched,I would like to see a young guy like Robert Foster or maybe Bradley Sylve get a shot at return duties.

Isn't Sylve the fastest guy on the team? I would love to see him back there.

I don't think Sylve has the best hands. May be why we've never seen him back there

Sylve would be a good option on KR as a straightline speed guy but he is not the best option for PR.

The Brother is extra country though, LOL... even moreso than Dee Milliner. Good ole kuntry boyz!!!

How do we know for sure? I don't remember seeing him get any PT that he could actually show off his skills.

KR is about hitting the crease and blowing it out to the endzone. PR is about concentration on the ball then making the first man miss (hard to tackle in a phone booth type).
David Palmer, Tyrone Prothro, Javier Arenas and Marquis Maze...none had great top end speed but all could catch in trafic and had quickness/change of direction that was off the charts.

Agreed, I've said similar in a previous conversation here over this(great minds, amirite?).
I think confidence plays a good part when it comes to PR as well. As a Jets fan, I watched their PR set a league high in fair catches. He just didn't have the confidence to run, nor did the ST coach in him to.

I think buckeye is asking how we know that Sylve isn't a make-a-guy-miss-and-go type player. People often assume that track guys have the top end speed but lack quickness, but is that really the case with Sylve? I don't know.

So what freshmen on both sides of the ball will get the most PT this year?
According to some of the reports from summer workouts on 247, Tyren Jones is the freshman RB who was turning heads. I guess we'll see if that holds up in fall camp, but I don't see any reason for it not to. Apparently he's got the full skill set already and is advanced for his age at pass pro-blocking, catching, awareness/vision, and footwork. His sister being an all-world athlete in middle school shows the genetic pool from which he came is special to say the least. In addition to all the physical stuff he can do already, the mental part is apparently quite advanced too in terms of work ethic and being competitive. I honestly want to see them all play, but it would seem prudent to redshirt at least two of them so as not to create a log-jam at RB.

If you watch him run he is a long strider.
If he was great at catching the ball in trafic I would assume he would still be at WR.
But you are right, we have never seen him PR in a game situation (including the spring) and I hope we never do. Chris Black is the one I want to see catch a punt.

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- Alabama's first, full team practice of 2013 is underway. Here's the latest...
Setting the scene
For the second consecutive day, Alabama practiced in helmets, jerseys and shorts. After splitting the squad up between veterans and newcomers Friday, everyone was working together today. Conditions were overcast and the temperature was officially 84 degrees. It felt much warmer because of high humidity.
Observations
-- As promised, the experiment of LaMichael Fanning at tight end continued. Much like Friday, Fanning caught a few passes and looked awkward at times as he dropped some others. That's to be expected.
-- There were no black, non-contact jerseys and no one working off to the side because of an injury. This is truly as healthy as Alabama has been since, well, this time last year.
-- A picture floated around after last night's practice showing just how big 28-year-old, walk-on safety Jai Miller had gotten. I watched him a little today. I can vouch that the photo is not photo-shopped.
-- That line of scholarship wide receivers is as long as it's been in years. Amari Cooper typically is first and followed by the likes of Christion Jones and DeAndrew White. Freshmen ArDarius Stewart, Raheem Falkins and Robert Foster brought up the rear.
-- The quarterbacks were divided into two groups as they worked with the wide receivers and tight ends. AJ McCarron, Alec Morris and Cooper Bateman threw to one group of pass-catchers while Blake Sims, Parker McLeod and Luke Del Rio threw to the others. We'll learn more about the pecking order when we hear from offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier on Sunday.
-- Jalston Fowler, who is working at both H-back and running back, is running well. He's still wearing a brace on his surgically repaired left knee, indicating that his recovery remains ongoing, but he looks healthy enough to play.
-- On the offensive line, freshman Grant Hill was taking repetitions at left tackle behind a handful of players. Freshman Brandon Hill was working right behind Austin Shepherd at right tackle.
-- The man holding the giant water-sprayer was the most popular guy on the practice field during the Crimson Tide's first mid-afternoon practice of the preseason. In between every quarterback/wideout drill, Nussmeier and wide receivers coach Billy Napier were yelling at the players to grab a drink.

Amari Cooper isn't the obvious choice?

Does make you wonder if the numbers have already been promised for next year.

Hill working right behind Shep? I like Hill as the future at RT, but was Leon behind Hill, or was he working at LT?

12 usually goes to a QB and Ely had it up until recently which explains why it's open at least on offense. I would guess Cornwell gets it by default next year.
Posted on 8/3/13 at 4:25 pm to AllBamaDoesIsWin
Brown was working with Shepherd and the TEs while the LTs worked with the H-Backs yesterday.
Brown was losing reps in spring to Hill for 2nd string, so Brown's spot isn't safe by any means.

Seems like one of the practice reports yesterday mentioned someone working at Safety. Was it Washington? Haven't seen any mention of it today though.
