Looks like Dickson is with the OLBs, right? So who will be the sixth man in the DL two deep? Ivory/Lake at NG, Pagan/Stinson/Tomlinson at End. Empty spot without Fanning, if the move is permanent I wanna see who grabs it.

How soon have people forgotten how much Coach Saban and staff experiment in the opening days of camp. Come on, people.

*Eight linebackers in the morning practice with CJ Mosley, Trey DePriest, Tana Patrick and Reggie Ragland inside and Adrian Hubbard, Xzavier Dickson, Denzel Devall and Dillon Lee outside.

DePriest (stress fracture) looks to be in good shape after missing some of spring drills while Dickson appeared to be a little lighter than he was in the spring. All four outside guys looked great, including Lee, who has adopted the Duck Dynasty look. Interesting that Ryan Anderson wasn’t a part of the morning practice but without knowing specifics difficult to read a whole lot into that.

*LaMichael Fanning and Jalston Fowler worked with the TEs/Hs. Fanning could be a solid third or fourth tight end with a specific role in short yardage and goal line. Fowler showed in the first couple of games last season what he can bring to the FB/H roles. Seemed to be moving well coming off the knee injury, although he's still sporting a knee brace.

Interesting that Malcolm Faciane wasn’t a part of the AM practice. Assuming he’s healthy and available, getting late to be practicing late on opening day. Brian Vogler, Harrison Jones and Kurt Freitag rounded out the group.

*Offensive line mirrored what we saw at the end of spring drills. After some rumblings in the offseason about his status, Leon Brown was with the second group at right tackle. Brandon Greene worked with the 2s at left tackle. Standing next to guys like Brown and Cyrus Kouandjio, Greene looks more like a guard than tackle but the same could be said for Austin Shepherd too.

*As far as the defensive linemen go, Ed Stinson looks great. Think Darnell Dockett minus the harassing twitter account. Nose tackles Brandon Ivory and Darren Lake both made strides in the offseason. With LaMichael Fanning over on offense, Anthony Orr worked with the second group at defensive end along with Dalvin Tomlinson.

*DeAndrew White looked very explosive. Really was the highlight for me in the limited time we had inside. Apparently on same rehab program as Adrian Peterson. No knee brace for White, who is nine months removed from an ACL tear. Kevin Norwood showed no signs from offseason toe surgery. In and out of cuts quickly and nice burst.

*Three quarterbacks were AJ McCarron, Blake Sims and Alec Morris. Between the quarterbacks and the receivers the ball wasn’t on the ground a lot during individual drills, which is a good sign on opening day.

Fanning to TE isn't necessarily a bad thing if he can catch a football.

Because

TE group either an area of concern or about to commit murder on opposing defenses. Fowler & Fanning are 2 of best pure athletes on the team.

The reports on him have always been that he is a 1st round athlete but just can't seem to figure it out at DE. If he clicks at TE it could suddenly become a position of strength.

Maybe we're going to sport a 3 TE set exclusively against spread teams and he's needed for that.

Any chance it has anything at all due to with him possibly being the Cody/Jesse role near the goal line, except with an ability to catch a pass also?

Cooper
White
Black
Norwood
Jones
Bell
Falkins
Foster
Howard

You can't cover that and respect a running game that has TJ Yeldon running behind Cyrus Kouandjio and Anthony Steen.

Why would our TE set matter against an opposing team's offense? We've ran three TE sets since 2008.

So we can outscore them.

I'm pretty sure Hunter said that in jest.

Not so much in fall camp. Less than a month before 1st game doesn't leave a lot of time for experimenting though I hope that's what this is.

If it's permanent, then we're going to need Kirven, Paige, or Robinson to step up and play a lot

There has been plenty of experimentation in fall camp in the past. And it is one day. He could very well be back at DE during the next practice.

The rotational runstopping end was still open when Fanning was there, so not much has changed in that regard.

Orr seems to be that style of player since HS, and we'll see the big bodied freshman soon enough...

I was hoping Fanning would develop his run stopping so he could be in the rotation on either running or passing downs.

White's gotten some good reviews. I think he could have a break-out year. Teams relax just a little when Amari comes out and White blows past them on deep routes

I said it back in Spring, dropping that 20 Lbs was a position killer. Thought he'd be move to OLB or TE, which the latter seems to be happening for today anyway.

He was getting blown off the ball at 290, can't imagine that would have stopped at a lighter weight. Now passrushing could have been interesting...

Denzel Duvall is quickly becoming my favorite player on the team.

So based on pairings it appears that our starters at CB, for now, would be Fulton and Belue followed by Sylve and Cy Jones. Geno Smith was with an assistant coach in the third pairing.
