This was not at all what I meant when the media guys grabbed me coming off the field today!! They started to ask me about being hurt now and being hurt in college and bama players getting hurt in the NFL and what I said was that I think that a lot of it has to do with mental toughness because at bama we played through everything because we all were mentally tough! Those of you that know me know i wouldn't ever talk down about ALABAMA and I was really trying to compliment how I think bama players are mentally tough and of course the media turned it into something else! I am still and always will be Roll Tide all the way!!????

OTHER STATS

-- In case you missed it, yesterday’s game against Chattanooga was Nick Saban’s 46th career game coaching Alabama as the AP’s No. 1 team. That ties him with Woody Hayes (Ohio State) for the most at one school. Saban is 41-5 (.891), with one more victory than Hayes and Bobby Bowden (Florida State), the most by any head coach of top-ranked teams. Bowden was 40-5 at Florida State as No. 1 and Hayes went 40-6 with Ohio State.

-- With the win over Chattanooga, Alabama has defeated 65 consecutive unranked teams under Saban. The last loss to an unranked team came against Auburn to end the 2007 season. The current streak began with a win over Colorado on Dec. 30, 2007, in the Independence Bowl. Under Saban, Alabama holds a 69-3 (65-3 after vacated wins) record against unranked opponents, including a perfect mark in matchups with unranked teams since 2008.

-- Talk about dominance. the Alabama defense has not surrendered a touchdown in the last 207 minutes and 54 seconds of game action, dating back to the third quarter of the Texas A&M game on October 22 when Christian Kirk caught a 25-yard touchdown pass. The Crimson Tide blanked the Aggies over the final 27:54 of that game and then shut out No. 15 LSU, 10-0, in Baton Rouge the following week. The Tide then limited both Mississippi State and Chattanooga to field goals over the last two weeks.

-- In a rare occurrence, however, Alabama didn’t record a sack in Saturday’s game. It was the first time since Week 12 of last season (Charleston Southern) the Tide didn’t register a sack. Because of that, Alabama no longer leads the nation in that statistical category. UA trails Florida State (41) by one heading into the final regular-season game. With at least three games -- and the potential for four -- left in front of it, Alabama’s 3.64 sacks per game average could still allow the Tide to jump last year’s nation-leading 52 sacks.

-- Alabama’s nation-leading rush defense (68.91) will host the country’s No. 5 rushing offense this weekend, as Auburn averages 297.82 yards per game on the ground. Kamryn Pettway is the Tigers’ leading rusher with 1,106 yards (138.25 yards per game in eight contests), but the running back has missed the last two games with a leg injury, and his status for the 2016 Iron Bowl is uncertain.

-- In case you missed it, true freshman quarterback Jalen Hurts’ 68 rushing yards versus the Mocs gave him 803 yards on the season, breaking the Alabama single-season quarterback rushing record of 791, which was set by Steadman Shealy in 1979.

-- With his three first-half touchdown passes, Hurts moved into third place on the Alabama single-season touchdown responsibility list with 30. Hurts has thrown 19 touchdown passes and rushed for 11 scores so far this season. AJ McCarron (2012: 30 passing, 1 rushing) is second. Blake Sims holds the single-season record with 35 touchdowns (28 passing, 7 rushing) in 2014.

Well safe to say hurts will likely be a 1000 yard rusher with Damien Harris and have around 40 td's total.

Harris is at 853 yards rushing so far. I could see 1,200 yards for him which would be a good season.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama senior linebacker Reuben Foster was named one of five finalists for the Butkus Award on Monday morning.

The Butkus Award is given annually to the nation’s top linebacker. Foster joined LSU’s Kendall Beckwith, Vanderbilt’s Zach Cunningham, Florida’s Jarrad Davis and Iowa’s Josey Jewell as finalists.

The signal-caller of the Crimson Tide linebacking corps, Foster has put together an impressive senior campaign, helping to lead one of the nation’s top-ranked defenses. He has collected a team-high 75 tackles while adding 9.0 tackles for loss (-39 yards) and two sacks (-18 yards). The Auburn, Ala., native has totaled three quarterback hurries and a pair of pass breakups for the season.

This year’s winner will be selected by an independent panel of recruiters, scouts, coaches and journalists and will be officially announced on or by Dec. 6.

The award recognizes linebackers at three levels of competition while helping spread the word about Butkus’ ‘I Play Clean’ initiative which encourages teens to eat well, train hard, and play with attitude instead of resorting to steroids and performance-enhancing drugs.

Alabama has had three players previously win the Butkus Award, including Derrick Thomas (1988), Rolando McClain (2009) and C.J. Mosley (2013). Last season, Reggie Ragland was named as a finalist for the Crimson Tide.

Offense: B

Alabama never really found a rhythm offensively. The Crimson Tide gained 332 yards of offense and scored 31 points, but things never seemed to click.

It didn’t help that Alabama was without ArDarius Stewart because of disciplinary reasons.

The lone bright spot from the passing game was Jalen Hurts connecting with Calvin Ridley.

Ridley finished the day with 7 catches for 94 yards and a touchdown. Hurts wound up 15 of 21 for 136 yards and 3 touchdowns. Two of Hurts touchdowns went to senior Gehrig Dieter.

Defense: A

Alabama gave up the field goal early, but that was all Chattanooga got on the night.

After the win over Chattanooga, the Alabama defense has not allowed a touchdown in the last 207 minutes and 54 seconds of game action, dating back to the third quarter of the Texas A&M game (Oct. 22).

Alabama’s 31-3 win over Chattanooga marked the 65th time the Crimson Tide have held an opponent to 10 points or fewer under head coach Nick Saban since the start of the 2007 season and the eighth time in 2016.

Chattanooga’s 184 yards in total offense marks the 42nd time during Saban’s last 121 games (since the start of the 2008 season) that the Crimson Tide defense has held the opposing offense to fewer than 200 yards of total offense.

Special teams: A

Punter JK Scott had another big day booting the ball and flipping the field. He’s one of the best in the country.

Adam Griffith now has 93 points in 2016 (14 field goals, 51 PATs) to give him 321 career points (49 FGs, 171 PATs), good for fourth place on the school’s career scoring list. He’s now 5 points shy of third-place Michael Proctor, who had 65 field goals and 131 PATs from 1992-95. Griffith also ranks fourth on Alabama’s all-time kick-scoring list just behind Proctor.

Coaching: B

Defensively, Alabama’s coaching staff had the players in the right position outside of that first drive. Chattanooga moved the ball a little the rest of the game, but the Mocs never seriously threatened to score after that.

Offensively, Alabama wanted to get the passing game, but that never worked out. Also, Alabama let Hurts run too often. It didn’t matter in the long run, but Hurts can’t keep taking those types of hits. Someone from the coaching staff needs to tell Saban that if they haven’t already.

Overall: B

This was the perfect “teaching moment” game for Saban and the coaching staff. Alabama won easily but struggled, which gives the coaching staff a lot of things to harp on during Iron Bowl prep.

Like it or not, it’s tough for players to get up emotionally for every single game, and these are the types of contests Alabama doesn’t always look its best.

Alabama will improve this week and be ready for Auburn in the Iron Bowl.

This is what had my mind blown all game long. Why wasnt the game plan at least similar to the one vs Miss ? They were teeing off on Hurts there for a while, and we know he can run so WTF was the point ?

I was thinking back and could have sworn I remember another 1AA pre-Auburn game that was pretty bad and then I remembered it, Western Carolina in 2014

10-7 at the end of the 1st qtr
17-14 with 10 minutes left in the 2nd
24-14 with 3:30 minutes left in the 2nd

They had 140 yards in the first half. Granted, we had 366.

Here are some observations from the abbreviated media access period:

—Receiver ArDarius Stewart was spotted participating after sitting out the Tide's victory over Chattanooga on Saturday because of an unspecified team violation.

— Running back Bo Scarbrough was involved in drills after being sidelined Saturday for precautionary reasons. He sprained his knee Nov. 5 in a win over LSU and hasn't played since.

"He should be fine this week and able to practice a little bit more and maybe get himself a little more game-ready," Saban said earlier Monday.

—Left tackle Cam Robinson and right guard Korren Kirven, who both hurt their shoulders late in the Crimson Tide's victory over Chattanooga on Saturday, were seen going through drills. Earlier Monday, Saban said, "I think those guys are better than expected. I don't know that they'll be able to practice today but hopefully we'll have everybody back to practice tomorrow."

— Right guard Alphonse Taylor wasn't spotted. He hasn't played since suffering a concussion in a win over Arkansas on Oct. 8.

— Inside linebacker Reuben Foster's hand continued to be heavily wrapped in club-like form.

TUSCALOOSA -- It’s now been more than a month since No. 1 Alabama’s defense surrendered a touchdown to an opponent. The Crimson Tide (11-0, 7-0 SEC) has not allowed a touchdown in the last 207 minutes and 54 seconds of game action, dating back to the third quarter of its 33-14 win over Texas A&M.

Aggie wide receiver Christian Kirk caught a 25-yard touchdown pass in the Week 8 game. That was the last time an opposing team crossed the goal line against Alabama’s No. 2-ranked total (252.6 yards per game) and scoring (11.6 points per game) defense. So what’s been the cause of this dominant run?

“It just means that we’re doing our job,” sophomore defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick said. “Everybody is out there executing, being disciplined. That’s kind of what we pride our defense on. It’s good that we’re doing that.”

Alabama blanked the Aggies over the final 27:54 of that game and shut out LSU, 10-0, in Baton Rouge the following week. The Tide then limited Mississippi State to a field goal on Nov. 12 in a 51-3 victory and defeated Chattanooga 31-3 this past weekend.

The Crimson Tide’s 31-3 win over UTC marked the 65th time it’s held an opponent to 10 points or fewer under head coach Nick Saban since the start of the 2007 season and the eighth time in 2016, excluding only Ole Miss (48-43), Arkansas (49-30) and Texas A&M (33-14).

As a pair of games against top-15 teams begins this weekend with No. 13 Auburn, Alabama will want to sustain that suffocating approach on defense. So what is it exactly that enables it to keep teams out of the end zone?

“I think the guys have played well together,” Saban said. “They have a good competitive spirit. They’ve prepared pretty well. I think they have a lot of pride. But this is going to be the most challenging group that we’ve faced, probably, in terms of the multiples of things that they do and how we need to adjust and how people need to be responsible and doing their job. That’ll be a real key to it.

“It doesn’t really matter what we’ve done in the last three weeks. It matters what we do the next week and that’s really what we’re focused on here.”

On the season, the Crimson Tide has only allowed 13 touchdowns, and 11 of those came in three games, including two on the road.

In order to keep Auburn’s league-leading rushing offense (297.82) off the scoreboard in Bryant-Denny Stadium, Alabama will need to clean up some things from its last game against UTC -- at least in the players’ eyes. And that brought linebacker Ryan Anderson back to this past weekend.

“We didn’t play good that last game,” Anderson said. “It felt like we gave up 21 points last game. I was embarrassed. … We didn’t play good.”

It’s been one month and one day since a team was able to score a touchdown on this Alabama defense. And with the Iron Bowl as the next game on the schedule, shutting its in-state rival out of the end zone would be a perfect end to the regular season for the Tide.

“It’s always good when you can shut down an opponent, especially an SEC West opponent,” defensive end Jonathan Allen said. “So if we’re able to do it this week, that’s going to be great.”

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama is relatively healthy heading into the Iron Bowl.

Three key players are banged up, but things are trending toward them playing against Auburn.

Running back Bo Scarbrough (knee), left tackle Cam Robinson (shoulder) and right guard Korren Kirven (shoulder) are all working their way back from injuries.

The Crimson Tide (11-0) hosts the Tigers (8-3) on Saturday inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET on CBS.

“They have practiced and if they continue to make progress, they both will play,” Saban said of Robinson and Kirven. “Bo Scarbrough has practiced more this week so we’re hopeful he will continue to progress. Certainly looks a lot better this week. That’s about it.”

Scarbrough has run for 358 yards and 5 touchdowns on 62 carries this season. Scarbrough injured his knee in the LSU game on Nov. 5. Scarbrough has dressed and gone through warmups, but he hasn’t played in the last two games. Saban has said Scarbrough was cleared by the medical staff, but the team decided to hold him out of the last two games.

Since he stepped on campus three years ago, Robinson has started every game at left tackle. Robinson has played through injuries throughout his career at Alabama. During practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, Robinson was spotted wearing a brace on his left shoulder. Robinson injured his shoulder against Chattanooga last week.

Kirven has started the last two games at right guard after making the switch from offensive tackle. Kirven injured his shoulder against Chattanooga last week. During practice this week, Kirven wore a brace on his left shoulder.

What I like about this team is how we have basically broken the spirit of anyone that was expected to be a contender or highly ranked we played this season. It took USC almost to October before they bounced back. And yes I know they switched QBs, but the defense is the same that yielded 52 points to us. Ole Miss never recovered, Arkansas not really sure they should have been ranked, aTm never recovered, UT only enough to claim the Championship of Life, and LSU seem to have new life only to play us and realize they would need to replace their HC for the 2nd time this season.

The team just doesn't win on the scoreboard but it it strips the life out of teams. Maybe we can claim the Champions of Soul Stealing.
