I was Killer Instinct on the Wooly. The band is getting back together! Lord Saban has summoned the Old Masters from exile.

The staff has given Bateman EVERY opportunity to win the job and he keeps making mistakes. They have thrown every situation at Hurts to try and find a reason NOT to give him the job. He's made some expected mistakes of youth, but has held up under the pressure and has by most accounts, outperformed Bateman i.e. moved the offense and scored. It's time to quit rehashing it. I still say Bateman takes the first series in Dallas as a courtesy to the kid who has done everything that was asked of him, but maybe isn't the best fit at QB for Bama. And he gets to stay and play as long as 1) the offense is moving 2) any mistakes or turnovers made aren't directly accountable to him. The minute he fails to meet either of those criteria, Hurts gets a look. And as long as he doesn't go out there and throw a pick, I think Hurts plays his way into the job right then and there. If not, I think the rotation will continue and that ain't good.

Al.com practice report:
LINK

quote:

-- There was a different look to the first-team offensive line. Bradley Bozeman was the center with Ross Pierschbacher at right guard. So, they essentially traded the positions they'd had all preseason. Not sure how permanent this is, but the time for experimentation is typically over by game-prep time.

-- Alphonse Taylor, the starting right guard last season, was in a white jersey, but didn't have the knee braces and leg pads the rest of the line wore. Nick Saban on Thursday said he was banged up.

-- There were scout team jerseys scattered all over the place. Running back Lawrence Erekosima wore the No. 22 of Justin Davis, the second leading rusher from last season.

-- The four scholarship quarterbacks worked with receivers during the media viewing. Two walk-ons handled the QB duties in drills with the offensive line and defensive backs.

-- Running back Ronnie Clark was in a white, full-contact jersey after starting the preseason in black following an ankle injury.

Game week starts Monday as Alabama begins preparation for USC.

-- Freshman linebacker Mack Wilson was working with the second-team nickel defense alongside Keith Holcombe. Reuben Foster and Shaun Dion Hamilton remain the first-teamers.

-- Freshman cornerback Nigel Knott was shadowing Tony Brown after missing practice time in August with an injury.

I hate that Nigel Knott has missed so much time. I really thought he would be a demon on special teams

I'll say this about Hurts, even if the kid has ice in his veins, the pressure is real if he starts:

1. Starting for the top program in CFB today and of all time as a True Freshman

2. Starting for the best coach in CFB today and maybe of all time as a True Freshman

3. Playing USC, a top 3 program all time and a top 20 preseason team

4. Playing in Jerryworld

5. Having so much talent around him that failure to utilize that, even with decent numbers, can be seen as a negative

It'd be interesting to see if he's got it in him to perform with all of that pressure.

No one thinks about that shite. I know I wouldn't. I promise you Hurts has the mindset that no one is better than him and no situation is too big for him.

Seems like I missed a lot.

Bo is hot and cold. Some practices all over it some he kind of has a I don't care attitude.

As far as the scrimmages go: hurts has looked the best in both, followed by Barnett in the first one and his huge meltdown in the 2nd one. Bateman was just meh but with his share of picks.

Someone mentioned does hurts know the playbook. Yes he does and he runs more plays than any of the other qbs. Not only read but our other sets. I haven't seen him mess up a single play, he gets people set and rolls. I'm sure the reading defense will get better over time but from what I have seen he is at least on par.

Obviously I just want us to win but this situation is odd. One guy is just way more talented than the rest and I understand the worry of hey what if he just loses his shite and we crumble. I think the best way for this to go is hurts starts, short leash, if he goes bad Bateman comes in and runs the offense plain. If you do it the other way it could be worse.

Hurts has looked by far the best in practice according to what I've heard.

We just have to trust the coaches and roll on. I'll know more this coming week.

Oh and btw expect Mcmillion and Dwight to transfer.

Didn't the staff essentially pick King over Kongbo?

Maybe Saban knows the NCAA is coming and is preemptively getting us under the imposed scholarship limit. Dude is always on top of it.

After classes have already started? Don't think they could even enroll anywhere else at this point.
