Hurts was obviously confused by their stunting and blitz packages. Can't lay the blame on his shoulders. He just wasn't ready for this type of game. Maybe he will learn to read defenses before next fall. If we had been able to mount just a couple of long, clock eating drives, the outcome would have been different.

The problem is that I have seen zero improvement in Hurts game. He has regressed big time.

From a coaching standpoint, I don't understand why we continued to go hurry up, when it was obvious we needed to shorten the game.

That shouldn't be too alarming. Those types of development strides come on the offseason when coaches have time to make major tweaks etc

When dealing with a true FR mid season, hard to imagine they are trying to make major changes

Exactly, and then the OC change further handcuffs the situation. Sark wasnt going to take too many chances with a TF QB.

This! I nearly shite myself when we get in the 4th nursing a 3 pt lead and we get a nice 5 yard run on first down and we decide to go fast?? WTF! Needless to say we threw 2 incomplete passes, and ran about 20 seconds off the clock before punting it back and putting our defense right back on the field. It was inexcusable. And all year long when we have tried to go fast, it backfired. Slow it down, run clock. Give the D a blow.

I feel like we fell in love with Hurts ability to tuck and run that we forgot he just isn't that good at passing the ball.

I was hoping to see improvements in his deep ball or even the intermediate passes. Coker made those improvements. Hurts did not.

I get the feeling that Hurts deficiencies are too much for an offseason of coaching to overcome. And I hate that because I like his attitude.

Coker also was a RS Senior QB who had great QB coaches in Fisher than Kiffin. Id hope he is able to adjust better mid season than a 18YO kid

Hurts may never become great, but he should improve. At worst he should be able to be >Blake Sims passing while a better runner. That would be enough to win that game for example

I'm just worried the talk of Hurts improving will end up being the equivalent of lsu fans talking about Brandon Harris improving.

The problem is that the options behind him are so young.

Alabama has continually developed QBs. Sark made Jake Locker a first rounder for Christ sakes.

It's kinda hard to learn things like timing routes, and leading receivers during the season. That's why when he's fricked up, I'm not blaming him. He was forced into the fire too early for an elite team. Who knows if he'll develop like he needs to. But it was bad qb evaluations that forced us to play an 18 year old qb. That's like getting pissed at a puppy for pissing on the floor.

I agree we should've never been in the position to play Hurts as a freshman. I guess that is the price you pay when you play musical chairs with OCs

Which is why we won't have a qb controversy next season. We missed an Evals badly under Nuss. Mac wasn't much better either, considering AJ was served up on a silver platter.

Nuss just sucked in almost every regard. Especially play calling and evaluations.

I wonder about Sark though. Will he be around long enough to develop a QB from start to finish?

I think he'll stay for 3 years like Freshwater. Kiffin just seems to have maturity issues. Dark has alcohol issues. Any major program will be heisitant to give him control of the program after just a year or two. Three might not even be enough for a power 5 job. Stress is a trigger, and a HC job is loaded with stress. At this point, I'm sure he's just happy to be making good money in a high profile position, while being able to work on his problems. Most alcoholics aren't so fortunate.

We made it to the NC with a true freshman who by the way got us the go ahead TD and yes he has a lot to work on but I have not seen anything from him you can not fix. He needs to work on his reads, he needs to some time stay in the pocket, know when to scramble better when sometimes it becomes it seems he does it without looking at at other options, and needs to not be locked into to one target. But all fixable.

The positive for him last night no turnovers, threw the ball away a lot better and no sacks

Jake Locker had huge concussion issues in college which is what derailed is NFL career. Physically, he had all the tools to be a RD1 guy

Better example is the production they got at USC from middling talent John David Booty and known trainwreck Matty Sanchize
