We beat the #3 team in the country by two touchdowns dude.

Don't be "that fan."

They were bringing extra rushers almost every play.

They were also getting pressure by just rushing four. Go back and watch the replay. No matter how many guys FSU sent, our line was having trouble blocking them. We just got out muscled by their DL. The run blocking was practically non-existent.

And when a defense brings extra guys, you have to make them pay with hot routes right where that defender is coming from. That is the only thing that will make them back off. Scrambling for 2 or 5 or even 10 yards won't back them off, they will just try to keep you in the pocket next time until the pressure gets there. You have to beat them with your arm. Jalen can't do that. At least not yet.

Most OC's only stay 2-4 years anyway, even if successful.

Like Applewhite.

I'd probably take Applewhite back in a heartbeat at this point in his career. He didn't have much to work with when he was here.

I love to remind Vol-LSU-Aggie fans about the bright Saturday morning when, just hours after losing his AA center, another starting OL, and Glen Coffee, a twenty something year old kid named Major Applewhite took John Chavis to the woodshed and beat him like a rented mule.

True supposedly Jimbo is one of the greatest OC's and he actually calls the plays as the head coach. Well we made him look like a bad OC.

The opponent never showed their belly.

Florida State never gave in. They never got tired. They never started missing tackles.

Also, the swing pass to Bo was a fantastic call on 3rd down late in the 1st half. We got him 1 on 1 with a safety in space and the safety just flat out nosed up and dropped him. They made plays like that the entire game. Big, fast and they didn't miss any tackles.

We have things to improve on (a lot), but to act like we should have put 40 up just cause "we're Alabama" is asinine. That FSU defense is as good an in-person defense (not including ours) as I have seen since 2011 LSU. They were elite at all 3 levels, especially DL and LB, and they didn't miss any tackles.

I was hoping we would come back to that play. Ermon Lane came up and made a huge tackle for FSU. Bo could have easily ran for at least 15 yards more.

We were in that corner of the end zone and I was 100% sure that was a touchdown. I could not believe that Lane just dropped him like that.

i kept griping about dabolls 1st down play calls during the game. looked as tho 75% were runs behind center or guard. no quick slants. nothing quick hit in the pass game save a few tries to the outside ala kiffin.

mind you i was griping about all that while saying fsu is bringing at least 1 more player than we can block on nearly every play.

it appears we better get used to the good defenses attacking jalen straight up. put him under pressure, boom, no passing game, youve eliminated half the arsenal.

Florida State consistently got pressure with just 4. Hurts was running for his life most of the game. When he did have time he made some good throws.

A less mobile qb, and our offense would have been worse.

Hard to get upset when you play a great defense and don't turn the ball over.

Dude get a grip. It was the first game. We go through this every freaking year and some of you still don't get it. And if Kiffin could last 3 years, Daboll will not be one and done unless he wants to be. The dude is a professional through and through, unlike the guy before him.

ANd has never lasted more than a year as an OC.

ETA: My bad he had two years at Cleveland. Number 32 and 29 ranked offense in the NFL respectively.

I'll post what I posted in the other thread:

Hard to be too critical because FSU has an elite defense, but.....

- Jalen didn't look any different (Doesn't mean he was bad).
- OL play was poor
- Daboll's playcalling left a lot to be desired.
- When you get the ball on the 6 and have a chance to put your foot on their throat, going backwards is unacceptable. With all the chances we got in the second half, we should've come away with more than 13 points.

That's on the QB to see at the line and make a call to switch plays, right? Or does the OL (center) have to see it and make the line call on how to slide the blocking scheme? or Both?
