Maybe but it sure does look promising. I’d be very happy if he did get the job.

Trying to figure out what this guy's done that Kiffin hasn't.

Kiffen has won in a harder division. Ole Miss is mid tier. Oregon is top tier in Pac 12.

And yet Kiffin won 11 games.

20 million dollar buyout is a lot to risk on a guy with a very short track record. Remember Aranda?

This is still just being sourced from that one news anchor dude in Oregon with ties to UA, but yeah, let’s hope it is Lanning. Think he’s the best fit for the future of the program.

I think it's more about what he hasn't done in all honesty. Kiffin has a lot of baggage. I'm not opposed to either. Any hire outside of Kirby has risk attached to it.

He's acted mature and not hired Golding.

I'd rather Lane than several candidates. But I'd rather have Lanning. Deboer might be my favorite, if he had any Southern connection at any point in his career.

There are also people saying that he is Not in Tuscaloosa as well. So could just be people trying to guess with no real confirmation.

I would argue this was the case some years back. He’s cleaned up his image and found success at ole miss.

Also just realizing I can post here, thanks for the access, admins

Gmac said Lane is out. He burned too many bridges when he left Tuscaloosa. IMO, not Gmac's, I dont think Saban cares for him.
He also said Dabo is out. And he said he didnt know who would stroke a 20 million dollar in Tuscaloosa check to get a coach.

Well said.

And it's really a shame, because if Lane could've just gotten out of his own way, he'd probably be the first call (and he may still).

But he's undoubtedly been a guy who has cast his own seeds of doubt, probably throughout his entire career.

I don’t know that Lane is “out” but I’d heard that one member of the BOT has stated that he will never, ever in a million years vote to approve Lane for the job. I suppose that member could be convinced but it’s not promising.

I do think Lane has grown up some and isn’t quite the horn dog he used to be. He also has publicly he was an idiot off the field while he was in Tuscaloosa and that CNS was right to fire him.

Doesn't have a girlfriend that's 20 years his junior (or more?)

I mean, personally, high five. Kit's kinda weird. But kinda awesome.

But as a head coach at Alabama, the optics matter.

He does but he also keeps their relationship relatively low key.

I’m not sure it’s 20 years. She looks early to mid 30s to me and he’s 48.

IMO that would be a crazy reason to not consider him

Kiffin does not have the baggage he had 10 years ago, but it's still there. He's done a lot of stupid things, and a lot of traditional fans / administrators don't really care for his loosey-goosey style. I'm good with the guy and think he has grown and is a very good coach now, but it's naïve to act as though he hasn't created some problems for himself.

EDIT - the girlfriend graduated from OM in 2019. She's probably about 26-27.
