Before someone comes in bashing him, a lot of these red dots are drops. He didn't play perfect, but he had a good game considering how bad the O-line was

I didn't see any drops by our receivers. You could MAYBE say Ruggs should've caught the TD, but that would've been a nearly impossible grab. It hit the tips of his outstretched fingers. Maybe he misjudged the ball in flight and slowed up a tad, but that was his first target in cfb. I don't blame him one bit for not catching it. That would've been a remarkable catch

That chart looks like Blake Sims' chart against WVU. Good shite

I assume this doesn't include the completed pass to Jeudy for 26 yards that was called back, or is that the 26 harder listed as an incompletion?

The lack of passing over the middle is concerning. We don't even run basic slants.

we don't know what we run yet, it's been one game against probably the best secondary in the country. We played conservative, last thing we needed was interceptions.

While definitely not awe inspiring, if you flipped the red and green you would really say "what the frick?"

As Hurts' biggest critic, I'll say I came away feeling a little better about him after that game. Last year, his passes just weren't accurate. I didn't know if he had it in him. But, after A-day and this game, I think he can throw a fairly accurate ball. Now, his biggest issue is throwing it when and where he needs to throw it. Instead of hauling arse out of the pocket toward the sideline and gaining nothing, take a step up to avoid the rush and keep his eyes downfield. But, that is something that he can learn. I don't worry about that as much as I did his ability to throw an accurate pass.

He got better as the game went along about scrambling to throw as opposed to just tucking it and running. From my assessment it turned for him on the 2 pt conversion. After that he did it a few more times. I also don't believe the play calling really allowed for anyone to get into much of a rythem. There is a chance I'm not right but I'm not wrong.

Still scared to let him throw into the middle of the field.

He did a great job. One of those incompletions was actually completed to the receiver and he was pushed out of bounds in the air. I don't count that as a knock on the QB's accuracy. Just a good defensive play.

See, this is where I have my doubts. But I have hope, too.

I actually believe that Jalen having a lot of success scrambling last season was a blessing and a curse. He seemed to regress in the pocket, and scrambling became his first option in his head. He's going to really have to work to change that dynamic now.

I definitely have doubts as well. I'm just trying to be optimistic.

You're probably right about his running ability being a curse in this area. Despite the rah rah sunshine pumpers, he's by far the worst passing QB we've had under Saban. If he didn't have the option to run, I'm guessing he'd have progressed a lot faster on staying behind the LOS and finding a place to throw the ball.

I wouldn't say by far. 2009 Greg McElroy was as bad or worse, especially during late September and October.

But as of now he's clearly near the bottom.

You may be right. I don't remember McElroy ever being worse, but that was a long time ago and my memory ain't what it used to be.

I posted some numbers that show it pretty well.

Heck, against South Carolina it got so bad Saban said frick it and had Mark Ingram just start taking direct snaps - and not for single plays. That was the offense for several series.

We also may have lost about three more games than we have with him under center.

I THINK he has only thrown around 15-20 passes dead center of the field.

Pretty ugly chart. The middle of the field has to become part of the attack again. The good defenses are going to be able to smother such a predictable passing game.
