I think they hire internally with Moore. I really hope that Harbaugh takes his staff with him.

I, too, think they're going to hire Coach Best Friend like ND as portal prevention.

According to an article that I read earlier Harbaugh will likely take Jesse Minter and Jay Harbaugh with him to LA as assistants.

Very likely. I think it's a mistake long term, but for roster preservation it's probably the best bet.

Obviously this doesn't apply to Moore, but I kinda wish some enterprising young journalist would try to get the ball rolling on how the transfer portal's effect on coaching changes arguably reverses any progress that has been made on minority coaching hires. The pressure to make a hire as quickly as possible to hold the roster together means interviews will be very limited and coaches who may have gotten an opportunity if there had been less of a time crunch don't even get a shot to interview because they were like #6 on the list. The fear of losing half the roster to the portal has made an already pretty secretive hiring process that much worse.

So now OSU has to play Oregon, Penn State, and Michigan with a new coach. So really, just Oregon.

Michigan wasn’t going to be nearly as competitive this year. They had a lot of upperclassmen starting. They still have some talented players in spots that will be fair game for opposing teams to cherry pick.

Good for him. I hope he wins a superbowl with LA.

Read some really positive stuff about him and the kind of man he is after the championship game. I respect the guy.

VERY smart timing. 99% of schools are past their add/drop deadline for classes. So people will NOT be able to raid their roster until the late spring portal opening. Very smart.

Can we make our UM-Portal Wishlist now?

Also, when Ryan Day gets fired after next season... maybe we get Sayin back before he has even played a snap

It is interesting because historically minority head coaches have often been the culture glue guy and recruiting wizard but not the tacticians and teachers. You'll usually hide that type of guy away at a lower risk position like RB or TEs.

So you end up promoting a guy to HC as a minority head coach primarily to keep the culture and recruiting relationship but you absolutely frick them over if they did not develop good contacts and knowledge for how to manage a team.

Obviously the problem isn't really NIL here but typecasting of minority coaches that will slowly change over time. But I imagine the results of minority hires could be damaged in the short term unless they've been well groomed to be a head man.

I can tell you that Stewart Bell is not going to stop DeBoer from signing a Michigan athlete if it helps the 2024 roster. Anything written in stone by a university can be erased with a VP or President's signature.

I read on here (I think) that a president / chancellor can override that drop / add deadline if needed. In fact I think that's how Caleb Downs was able to enroll at OSU.

Not smart in my book, a player will not appreciate being handcuffed like that.

Agreed. Pushing your mass exodus into the Spring will cripple you further than simply letting it happen now. There is plenty that can be done between now and the Spring... there isn't as much that can be done between the Spring and start of the season.

Kids will drop out to take 6 figures and summer school classes.

Honestly I have no idea if it will affect the hiring rate of minority coaches. My hunch is that it will increase internal promotions and decrease external hires, but it'll take years to be able to reach any conclusions. I just want some pot stirring troll like Dan Wolken to make the connection and start beating the drum against this 30 day window foolishness.

Yeah drop/add isn't law. Universities can manipulate this things anyway they want as long as the academic and administrative stack holders are willing to oblige.
