His final days as in winning the PAC 12 and then losing their best player which killed any chance at a tournament run? Like I said, he was disliked by the fanbase cause he wasn't playing fast. He started playing fast his final year but the administration had their mind set for getting rid of him. We're alabama. We would be lucky to have a 3 time final four coach fall into our laps. I can't fathom why our fanbase isn't gung-ho about a coach of that caliber being available. To each his own though.

I'm with ya..Howland would be a slam dunk for us. And a good counter to Auburn's hire of Pearl and momentum.

I didn't want Howland because of his style of play, but at this point I would love to have him.

Reading some of the quotes about him from all of his NBA guys make him come off as even more impressive.

Howland would lock down this state.

Like Bryant said, I don't think he will go another year as a free coach.

Some of guys sound more ridiculous than the Auburn and Tennessee fans when they were looking for a football coach. WE ARE NOT GETTING HOWLAND! The guy is an elite coach that was let go by a program that is as badly run as the 49ers. He will land at a traditional basketball power, but none have openings. Even with that being the case he would probably land at a place like Arizona State

Did you not read the article where he/his agent essentially said he would have been interested in Mizzou/UT last year during their coaching search had they gone after him?

Umm he has brought up wanting to get hired by Tennessee and Mizzou.

He tried to get a lot of jobs lately and got turned down. He's not the one turning these schools down.

So because he wanted to go to Mizzou or Tennessee he automatically will settle for Bama? Has he expressed interest in Bama? Has his agent hinted at it? You do realize that both of those programs have had much more success recently than Bama and that could be the reason he was interested

It means he isn't only interested in a blue blood job (and ASU) like you suggested.

I never said that ASU was a blue blood job. I said he would want a job like that but since none are open he would settle for a school on the level of ASU. To me Tennessee and Mizzou are on that same level

They really sound no more ridiculous than you are sounding right now. I'm not saying we're getting Howland, but you're really setting yourself up for some serious crow if we do.

It will be delicious too. You guys have to stop with this nonsense though, we might not even fire Grant this season. Battle obviously gives 0 Frick's about basketball and isn't likely making a move. If they do make one, how much will they be willing to pay the new coach? How much will Howland command? I don't think these numbers would be nearly close enough to ink a deal

Agree with you on this. I don't think Battle really wants to fool with a coaching change unless he has to. I honestly won't be as upset as most people if we keep him another year. I think he's finally starting to come out of his shell a little. Tonight wasn't really his fault. We just had too many good looks and free throws rim out. My biggest concern with keeping him another year, is what happens if he underachieves again next year. The next coach will be in a real bad spot because of the players graduating and the lack of recruits coming in.

From what I can find online, I think Howland was making 2 million at UCLA. We're paying Grant 1.8. It's not like he'll be commanding something extremely out of range.
