The pass was legal. Cyrus was also at fault because haha was coming up for Marshall already and Cyrus' assignment was to stick to their he receiver but he decided to go for Marshall instead.

IIRC, he was also burned quite a bit but got lucky because of a few overthrows by Marshall.

Even if you are right about the pass play, which I am not convinced of then we gave up 28 points to a better offense in their house vs 44 points to a worse offense in our house. Cyrus has never played a game as poorly as Eddie did last year against the barn. If the coaches don't pull Eddie in the 3rd quarter the barn may have scored 65 on us.

Cyrus was beaten pretty regularly in '13. Not just against A&M and Auburn

But not "Eddie Jackson bad". Cyrus got beat because he honestly didn't know what to do, but Eddie was drummed physically and at times looked lost mentally. I really can't blame the kid for going out and trying his "best", but somewhere the buck should stop at Kirby and Coach. Hopefully Mel Tucker is allowed to decide who starts in the secondary.

On another note, I'm of the believe Eddie would be a wonderful FS due to his long arms, leaping ability, and knowledge of the playbook. Eddie, Cyrus, Tony, and Geno/Hootie seem like a great defensive pairing on paper.

I'd say worse. Take the criticism EJ has gotten on the board this offseason, multiply it by 10, then you'd approach the beating Cyrus took on this board last year. Belue was the whipping boy the year before that. Milliner a couple years before that. And Marquis a couple years before that. People tend to remember what's freshest in their memories.

Cyrus got it bad, but he wasn't nearly as bad as people made him out to be. Most of the plays he got beat on we're because he hadn't figured out yet how to compensate for his lack of height. He was usually in decent position on the WR in 2013.

Exactly, it was rare to see Cyrus flat out smoked by a WR like we saw so many times last year with Eddie. Now EJ was running on a freshly reconstructed knee, so I don't blame him for his lack of speed...I question the coaches who left faster, healthier corners on the bench while Eddie was getting beat by 5-10 yards on almost every deep route. At the very least EJ should have had over the top help from a safety pretty much every play.

EJ must have blackmailed his way into staying on the field this year.
