If Downs gets his OhioSt $$$ in one payment before the season starts, what would stop him from transferring back to BAMA in the spring?

Contracts prevent that, but since the NCAA won't likely ever punish tampering, we could conceivably go ahead and try to lock him down for 2025, if that were something we felt like we needed to do. (We don't, btw...)

Are they funded better than everyone else?

As I said in another post, 50 years ago when the BIG$$ guys were in school, Bama's enrollment was 13,000. OSU's was over 50,000 and growing. They have averaged 35k more enrollment than we have every year since then, even though its down to about 27k now.

There will never be a time when we have more money than OSU.

Gotcha. So, in your opinion, how much $$$ would an LLC need to compete at a high level of NIL? $100m? $50m? $20m? What kind of affiliation to the university would said LLC need?

Bama’s different collectives as they are called organize the disbursements with help of the coaches and other affiliates.

Bama has a lot in the coffers however, you have to keep in mind that’s for every sport and every potential player. It has to be carefully done as donors can drop off quickly. For example when players leave after saying they will stay.

Well, you would know far better than we do who might have done that, but at the end of the day, I'd hope that our large donors would have enough trust in the people disbursing the funds that their funds going to a single player wouldn't be the only way they'd contribute, but I realize how disappointing that can be.

I'm between contracts, the stock market is closed, and the NFL sucks. Sue me.

They sign a contract

It would take some serious arse gangster arse balls to pull this off, but it's like anything else. There's all kinds of shite you can't do, until somebody does.

The other school has to buy out your current contract, so the NIL affiliation doesn’t lose anything but what the player was due.

This is all under the assumption that the collective would actually sue for the breach. I'm sure that will happen eventually, and I'm very interested to see it when it finally happens.
