Wow. So this is what you've resorted to when you're losing an argument. Save that shite for the rant.

It really boils down to how much over charging the paying public will stomach. We were tide pride members from 1995-2009 and gave them up for a few reasons. One, we got tired of only seeing a couple of decent home games a year and two rising costs associated with the games. I;m an engineer and make really good money but that doesn't mean I'll keep throwing it away for way overpriced stuff. Attendance all over the country is dropping everywhere and people are already starting to decide these crap home games are just not worth it anymore. Fault can be argued all day about the over charging but whether some of the flamers in this thread admit it or not, over charging is happening. When a bottle of water costs the same at your place as it does at Disney World and all you are offering is a seat on concrete or metal at a game, you are over charging, no two ways about it. Those prices are rediculous.

Not yet there's not. And maybe there won't be, but there is growing backlash across the country with rising ticket prices and less attractive games, and we have not been immune to that. Add concessions on top of that, and it's a ticking time bomb.
But the issue really isn't the threat of lawsuits. The issue is how greedy the UA athletic department is. It's become a joke. This example just further illustrates it.

Where can I find some national media outrage because bottled water isn't fricking free?
Well, it's not just that people are pissed about, is it? It's the combo of expensive bottled water, and other sources of water not being easily available. If more kids keep getting carried off from heat stroke and it were to become a big story, yeah I could see that looking very bad for the University. But it seems like a lot of this could be solved by adding more water fountains and/or putting up signs to make the water fountains easier to find. I couldn't tell you where the water fountains in the student section are now...near the bathrooms, maybe?
Anyway as a former business major I'm not going to begrudge the University trying to make a profit, but it actually seems kind of short-sighted and just bad business to alienate the customers this way. Why not show the fans, ie the lifeblood of the whole damn program, a little more appreciation? The people in the stadium have already paid out the arse and gone through a good bit of inconvenience to be there, and asking for that much for a damn bottle of water seems like ind of a slap in the face. Why not show some good will on a day when Tuscaloosa is at its most heat stroke-inducing? Personally, bullshite like this is part of why I would never pay to go to an FAU type game now. Water at the bar is free.

FWIW, my first game at BDS was in 1979 and I've been to a game almost every year since, and in all that time I've only seen one water fountain and it wasn't operable the day I saw it. Granted, I've never really looked for one, but if there are water fountains within the stadium , they're far from conspicuous.

Sorry but I am pissed about spending
$40 on water during the game not including tickets and hotel. It is outrageous to charge 4.50 for a bottle of water!

I don't tip every time, but sometimes I do.

I can't find any reasonable explanation why you would tip anyone other than MAYBE the guys that sell drinks in the stands. And then, it's usually just telling them to keep the $.50 change. Surely you don't tip after waiting in line at the concession stand, do you?

I actually think I am getting my venues mixed up. I really only tip at venues that sell beer now that I think about it.

I usually tip at the concession stand, if I even go to it, which I usually don't. The way I look at it is those people are raising money for whatever group they're with, they're working the hardest, and they're getting the smallest(any? or just tips?) cut from sales.

If I'm paying cash I do because when I was in HS our band ran a stand at a minor league baseball stadium to raise money. I feel their pain

Sorry to butt in here...
How long are the lines typically at yalls concessions?
UGA's prices on things are reasonable, but the lines are usually 20 minutes long, and that's NOT at half-time. It's because they are all ran by volunteers who don't necessarily know how to run a food operation. They are church kids and such.
I feel like we have the opposite problem. Id rather the price of everything go up a dollar and have actual food service staff that know how to turn the stuff out real fast.

Our concessions are ran by vvolunteers or at least people that get paid very little. Mid-quarter, I can get concessions and get back in my seat within 5 minutes pretty easily. During halftime it may take 10 minutes.
Posted on 9/13/14 at 8:26 am to deeprig9
Our concession stand lines are ridiculous because they are run by volunteers as well. I stood in line for 25 minutes last Saturday, and that wasn't even during a marquee game.
When you say cheap, how much do they charge for a bottled water?

It also is how greedy are the fans. I have yet to see fans start boycotting games at BDS because of the price of concessions or just bottled water. But I can imagine the backlash the university would take if Saban would have left for Texas and all UA would have done was to match 2 million more on his contract. The fans are probably the most greedy of all. Demanding better facilities, the top coaches in all sports, and whatever other thrills deemed required to be a top university. So the university continues to meet those expectations but have to pay for them so how. So they throw in on the backend in concessions. They tell Centerplate this is what we have to get. You determine your required profit margin for you to operate but we expect this. So all UA fans get Saban and everything they want for the football program and now pay $4.50 for a bottle of water.
People will never be happy.

The food service people that they actually employ are useless. They get minimum wage or near and have no desire to work hard. Have worked multiple venues with them. These companies have a hard time hiring people because the work is sporadic based on events. They go with the volunteer groups because it is a donation the payment(tax right off) and they do not have any payroll tax for them and no benefits. Also the majority of these venues it is not the volunteer groups for the issue, but the few paid staff in the stand who oversee(manage) or cook. Most venues due to insurance require a paid staff member to cook. If they being lazy food is not being made and the stand manager does not get the warehouse to provide items when needed on time the lines are longer because no inventory.
