Firing coaches before peak years is just stupid. It does nothing, but hurt your program. If we feel the same about Grant after next year, then yes we can tear it down and try to rebuild. But we should at least find out what he can do with easily the most experienced, talented, and deepest team he has had since he's been here.

In all honesty I think Coach K or Bill Self would be much better hires for our program...

Nah, Self chokes too much in the tournament. Izzo and Saban are friends though.

Yeah that's the whole point. This is the first year that Grant will truly have a deep team with experience. Let us see how it goes. Should be top 3 in the SEC and and an upper 8 seed in the NCAA. If he fails next year, he is fair game unless we are riddled with injuries. And if this kid Sina does commit to us , you'll witness this program make its stand in the SEC for sure. You can't throw all of that potential out just yet. As far as Minnesota goes, I don't see Grant leaving unless he's truly looking for a way out. It'd be a lateral move at best.

People say this a lot, but it's not as bad as some people make it out to be.

03-04 = Elite 8
04-05 = 1st round
05-06 = 1st round
06-07 = Elite 8
07-08 = Won National Championship
08-09 = Sweet 16
09-10 = 2nd round
10-11 = Sweet 16
11-12 = National Championship Game

Started out shaky with two 1st round exits in the first three years, but since then he has taken Kansas to a very respectable postseason record and has won a National Championship.

ETA: Kansas has a ton of talent every year, but still.

I have been in the "Give him one more year" camp until last night.

I got to go to the game last night, and while the effort on defense was as good as you could ask for, the players basically have no clue what to do on offense. The aggressive hustle on defense flips to jogging through cuts and lanes on offense.

And a glaring example last night that you don't always see on TV was basic stuff that I knew playing Jr high ball. The lane violation is an example, but, every time Maryland lined up to shoot a freethrow, the Bama players couldn't figure out how to line up. I love Randolph's efforts but EVERY time they lined up, he was asking Releford or the other players where to line up and who to block out. It may be an on-court call, but, he wasn't getting an answer which tells me either Releford or whoever didn't know or wasn't communicating. LR looked very frustrated and I noticed that when that happened, he seemed affected by it on the opposite end.

That may seem trivial, but, that's the kind of stuff that they should already know.

And I know now how to defend Bama's offense. Put your tallest line up out front and Bama will play (and struggle to do that) lob the ball over the big guys all night.

Even with the hustle on D, it took a half before Grant figured out how to stop Maryland from driving all the way down the court and into the lane.

I can live with hustle and trying hard but losing because of talent. Watching everyone act like they don't know what they're supposed to do is a different thing, especially when most of the players have had at least 2 years under Grant.

Agreed, ksrph. Very frustrating to watch players jogging on their cuts

The travel on the inbound is another example of a mistake you should never see late in the season

Pollard would transfer at the very least

After what I saw of Pollard last night, I don't care if he does transfer. Very timid. Looks of panic when trying to get the ball up court. He may have given them some rest minutes but no more than that.

I agree it won't be good for the short term for Grant to go, but sometimes, you have to take a step back to go forward.

I am okay if he stays another year. I think he SHOULD have a better year with the Jr and Sr laden team, but unless this big man he's recruited is a beast, I don't think there will be much more than a one and done in the NCAA next year, at best.

I just don't see the foundation being laid that gives me a lot of hope for the future.

Exactly! Another glaring example. I grew up in another state at a small, but very successful basketball school (no football until after I graduated high school.) We didn't always have the most talent, but, you were not going to beat our teams on fundamentals and having a plan.

I guess we are spoiled with a detail-oriented, fundamentally sound first, football coach and program, so, we expect that from our basketball coach. Ridiculous to expect, huh!?!

What's ridiculous to expect is that the next guy would be better than Grant. He very well could be worse. In fact, if Grant was fired now, the odds are slim that we'd get a coach as good. It's always a crap shoot when you decide to change coaches. Anyone who has followed Alabama athletics for any length of time knows that this university isn't going to go out and throw some ungodly sum of money at the hottest coach, nor are we going to spend the serious type of money on the program (I'm talking about new arena) that it would take to attract the best. Hell, Alabama won't even pull the plug on Wendell Hudson.

Bottom line...unless this program gets worse next year, there's no way Grant will be gone. And that's OK with me. If the program shows improvement next year, he should stay.

...like we've been saying all along. I mean, I'm sure Grant will answer the phone out of respect since he used to work for Minnesota's AD, but he is not going to Minnesota and probably never considered it for more than two seconds.
