Ivory and Lake were both "diamond in the rough" guys.

definitely. Ivory was a very late addition to his class and he was a project all the way. Lake came from a very small school. There is still plenty of time for Lake to develop into a solid contributor but right now he's in the "looks like tarzan, plays like jane" category, but presumably our new DL coach can get him to where we want him to be.

Frazier would not fall into that category. Highly rated and recruited by all the big boys. He also tore it up at Army AA practices. He just hasn't gotten the love from Bama fans because we had been so fixated on Elam for so long.

IMO, Frazier was a better prospect than Elam. Elam just seems like a fatass, essentially Billy Bob from Varsity Blues. But I dont expect a whole lot out of Frazier this year. He will need to develop his body a bit more and improve his footwork and balance. Redshirt year is likely, unless we are short at depth. I think Robinson and Reed could get worked at NT some, and there is also the possibility of using more 4 man lines.

As for the aforementioned Nick Perry, I dont expect he will start. But I have a feeling he will be a contributor in a few games and will make at least one big play in this his final year, ala his fellow Prattville Lion, Nick Gentry. Really not sure why some posters have such disdain for this guy.

I dont either. He was a solid contributor in 2012, and people talk about him like he's a scrub. Ridiculous.

I'm hoping to see Jarrick Williams have a big year. He made some incredible plays last year, and he's very physical. I like watching him play.

He was hardly solid.

My best example of Nick Perry came last year. I don't remember the game anymore. I wanna say LSU. But Landon Collins had to go out for a play. I don't recall why. Lost his helmet, got hurt, either way Perry came on for him. LC did a great job the whole game. Suddenly Perry's man makes him look silly and scores.

He's just not a Bama quality DB. I like him. I like the work he's put in for Bama. But we're a worse team with him on the field.

If that's the case then he should stay with UGA.

Was it the UGA game that Perry had a "bad play"? It was one of those latter games in which he started or saw tons of playing time.

It's essentially what drove a lot of Sunseri hate, there'd be 2 bad plays that stood out and the book was written on him. He's isolated as the lone cover guy on an all out blitz, and when the blitz doesn't deliver, he's stuck on an island with a WR. There's not 10 SS that could cover a WR 1-on-1.

As much as Bama likes to deploy 3 safeties or more, I'd expect to see him a bit this year. He's a reserve for a reason, but he's very knowledgeable of the defense, and that can get you on the field.

umm, Perry only played in two games last year before getting hurt. He played against VT and aTm and had one pass deflection. Plus, Landon Collins wasnt even starting at the time. So....

He got hurt last year two games in, and played well in the games he played.

To be fair, I think everyone gave up a TD to A&M.

LC played Money then. Perry replaced him at Money in Dime on the play.

True but it was pretty bad. Announcers noted that he couldn't allow the WR inside because he had no help inside...and he got beat badly to the inside allowing an easy pitch and catch TD

I'm not a Perry hater, but I remember him struggling at times throughout the '12 season too. I think LC, Geno, and Jarrick will be the top 3 safeties

None of us are. He's always seemed to be a good kid and has always worked his arse off. As Mag said, he knows the defense. But he's just never been effective against above average talent. It isn't his fault. And it isn't hating on him to not want him on the field. Hell, maybe he'd play a lot better this season.
