A dime package of TB/Fitzpatrick at Corner and Hump/Sheff at Star/Money (I put Fitz at Corner because while I think Hump would play that role better, I also think Hump would play Star better) with two of Thompson/Harrison/Hootie at Safety.

Morning people, just wanted to commend all who post here for their hard work and great information..... maybe we will hit 10 k today, with a little extra effort from some of the slackers like me.

I wanna know who is gonna complete a pass against Bama in the next few years.

Seriously. The secondary talent coming in is insane. Then you think about all the guys up front who can get after QBs. Evans, Miller, Hand, Robinson, Allen, etc.

I love The Process.

For those with more insight than I , what is the projected position for Daron Payne, if he were to accept our offer. It would seem to me he would be a great fit for nose in our scheme at 330 lbs. This seems to be the one position on Sabans defense we have problems attracting top level talent, even though those who have played it seem to have done relatively well in the draft. Stuffing the line and commanding double teams, may not be as glamorous as sacking the qb, but seems to be a skill that may be more in demand in future NFL drafts as more teams utilize the
3-4. Would be geat to see a top level talent like payne work the middle with Robinson and all these great defensive ends. Potential to be the GOAT line and defense in Bama history

As excited as I have been about our defenses the last couple of years, I like this team even better, these new guys look like All Americans at every position

The first thing that jumps out about Payne is his size. He is a massive 329 pounds, and yet, is not overly sloppy like one might expect of a young player carrying so much weight. Size matters in the trenches, and Payne has plenty. Often, teams must project how a player will add weight, and whether he can retain his athleticism once he does so. With Payne, there are no such questions, and he offers value in that certainty.

The first thing a college program will do with Payne is fix his stance. He often uses too high a stance, close to that of a sprinter's positioning, in pass rushing situations. He needs to be lower, more balanced, and better distribute his weight over his feet instead of his hands. That will help him react laterally and pursue down the line, and remain lower when fighting blocks.

That said, Payne does show some impressive get off at times, which will help him be a disruptor at the next level

continued....Payne has several clips in which he shows excellent change of direction and closing burst. That's impressive for a player of his size. In fact, this might be the best attribute he has on his tape, and it shows up in his testing, as he ran a 5.26 40-yard dash at 329 pounds.

Payne can stack and split double teams somewhat well, which speaks well of his strength, but he will need to pair that with much better technique in college to win those battles. Payne also needs to use his hands a lot better.

Right now, he offers very little as a pass rusher.

Payne projects as an impact defensive tackle who, with coaching, could be a major force later in his career.

Can anyone project our starting line up on defense?

DL: Allen, Robinson, (Reed/Lake/Ivory?)

LB: DePriest, Ragland, Dickson, Devall

CB: Tony Brown, Geno Smith?

S: Collins, Williams?

I like what you have there, front seven could be as good as we have seen in the Saban era

Definitely that.

That looks accurate. Lee could get his Sam spot back if he has a good fall. Tough to tell what's going on there.

TB will likely start. If Eddie Jackson was healthy, he'd start. He probably can't go week 1, so expect either Bradley Sylve or Cyrus Jones to be there. Geno Smith is at Free Safety now.

S: Collins, Williams?

Looks like Landon Collins and Geno Smith. Jarrick could win a spot with a big camp. He's probably retaining his role at Star. Nick Perry may win the job at FS...hopefully he doesn't.

It doesn't appear geno will play cornerback. I believe he will play FS in haha's role. I hope ivory doesn't start at NT and reed does. Lee will start at Sam I'm fairly confident and devall will stay at jack. Leaving Dickson as a 3rd down guy and backup to devall there.

Allen Reed Robinson DL (ivory in with 4 DL)
Devall Ragland Depriest Lee LBs (Foster on pass downs at will)
Collins, G.Smith, J.Williams (star) Safeties
Brown Humphrey Jackson (I think will be the eventual starters starting sec play)

I could see hand being a situational starter at DE on passing downs, I expect eddie Jackson to be back by the Florida game and to cover the physically imposing WRs, and for Cyrus jones to start the season opposite to brown but I think Humphrey is the better talent and if he can impress in practice and in the tuneup games, he will start opposite to brown in base defense.

Evans will find his way onto the field on third down. Maybe not early in the season, but eventually he's going to force his way into a role. Too much damn talent.

We are on similar pages. Idk who you think should start at NT but reed is the right answer. I agree on the LBs. Lee is the Sam and Dickson will be a situational starter on passing downs and relieve devall at jack. They say Sam and jack are interchangeable but I don't believe that. Sam always has been the coverage LB it seems and jack pass rush. They said the same thing with SS and FS and that just simply isn't true either lol. I think saban just likes to have everyone in the dark on his defense. Agree on the safeties as well. Collins, Smith, Williams. Perry better not sniff the field. He's fricking terrible. Hope he stays on ST with bobby Williams so they can be terrible together. Agree on corners except I think if hump impresses in both fall camp and his snaps against the cupcakes he could work into a start opposite to brown. Eddie Jackson being an island for certain guys.

A DL that would be cool to see would be if we went 4-3 at times and went Allen and Hand at DE and Robinson and Reed at DT.

I agree. Reed is the answer at Nose, not Ivory.

Yeah, they're not. Some people may learn both, but they're different positions.

I hope so. Hump is a great talent. The duo of TB/Hump for three straight years would be awesome.
