So I heard about this pizza joint called "Dave's Pizza" and I was told it's the best pizza in the city. I haven't tried it yet, but I have had pizza from Post Office Pies and that was some pretty damn good pizza. I won't be down there very long and I only want to order pizza once while I'm down there so I can hit up the BBQ joints(thank god for Saw's BBQ).

I was just asking around to you Birmingham people to see which pizza place y'all prefer or if you know of an even better pizza place than the two I've mentioned. Should I give up my beloved Swine Pie from Post Office Pies to try Dave's Pizza? It it worth it? TIA!

Hope your wallet is ready to take a hit if you're trying Dave's pizza.

Daves is good but Post Office Pies is the best IMO. DaVinci's right around the corner from Dave's is also very good. Get the Mona Lisa. Slice in Lakeview is also very good.

My top 2 are:

1. Post Office Pies - it's just the best imo. crust, sauce, cheese, all just fits together perfectly.

2. Davenports - old school, not as new-wave/high-quality with the ingredients but god damn i love this place. Maybe it's the nostalgia, but the sauce here is also just amazing. Sometimes I think it's still my favorite, just not quite the same thing as POP. One big drawback to this place: it's a popular family destination in Mountain Brook so there are obnoxious kids everywhere. I like to go a little after the dinner rush when it's not as crowded.

Those two are the best. Daves Pizza is not as good as Post Office Pies but you can still get some decent food there. Slice is better than Daves as well.

Pizza isnt on the level of these other places but it's decent enough: if you're looking for another option and a newer place, the filling station over in Crestwood has a killer patio and a nice neighborhood vibe, decent enough food. Not a bad place for some afternoon beers.

Those are good places, but until Rocky's closed it was my top choice.

I wouldnt say Rockys was my favorite overall pizza but it was certainly the best delivery option and I miss it a lot too!

Slice is good, more toppings and creative offerings than Post office pies and better beer/booze list since your not limited to avondale offerings, but I will say the pizza itself is better at POP than at Slice IMO. Can't go wrong either place but I feel pretty strongly about it even.

I really like post office pies so much. Don't eat it enough.

This.

I like Dave's, too, though.

Dave's is my favorite in Birmingham, but it's also really close to my house and has a great buffalo chicken pizza, which I love. They have a great lunch buffet, and also $2 drafts on Tuesday nights. Post Office Pies is great too, though, especially if you order to go and head over to the courtyard at the brewery. Personally, I don't know any that are better than those two.

To each their own, but I think Slice is the most overrated pizza in town, and it is insane what they charge. I've been numerous times because our best friends love it and live close, and every time I've been the center of the crust isn't cooked all the way, nor are all the toppings. They do have great apps, salads, and a great beer list though.

For pizza, I like Post Office, Rocky's, or Davenport's. Dave's used to be good, and may still be, but I haven't eaten there in several years.

I don't see their pizza as overpriced at all. A medium (12") Pizza Hut pepperoni lover's is $12.50. A 12" perfect pepperoni at Slice is $16 and Slice uses fresh, local ingredients.

I don't drink, so I can't comment about their beer prices....

I just meant for the quality. Their pizzas range from $15-$25, which is pretty standard for that type of place. For the quality though, I think they're only worth about $10-$15.

I've never gotten out of there for less than ~$75 for my family of 4. And that's 2 pizzas, the wife and I splitting a salad, a beer or two for me, and a glass or two of wine for the wife. It's usually closer to $100. I think there are better options out there that aren't as pricey.

Hey we must be neighbors

I eat Dave's more than anything else because its so close to me. I also like their sandwiches though. Their Mediterranean veggie is so damn good. They also have good, cheap wings, and Jazz night on Tuesdays.

I think that POP is overrated, but I would go there again when in the area. Slice is great.

Post Office Pies
Davenports
Slice
De Vinci's

And not to shite on my list by throwing in a chain - but the 5 points mellow mushroom always delivers. We have one in Savannah and it's pretty crappy.

I can't believe I forgot my favorite pizza in town. It's not really a pizza place, but the pizza they make is phenomenal. Bettola in Pepper Place. The whole menu here is really good, but the pizzas are some of the best pizzas I've ever had.
