I remember when we were saying this about Blake Sims before the 2014 season. Then dude dropped dimes all over our faces all season long.

He is the most inaccurate QB we have. No thanks.

Hurts is a coaches son. He is very advanced relative to his understanding of the X's and O's. He is not your average freshman so simply assuming he doesnt have the knowledge is wrong.

Hurts is the first QB since McCarron to create any positive buzz from the practice field, and he's done it from the second he joined the team. The players and coaches obviously feel as though Hurts has "it."

Did anyone pay attention to the look in Hurts eyes during ADay ? He was moving faster than the other QB's, but the look in his eyes showed that everything else about the game was moving slower. Its called "ice water in the veins." Thats what you want when youre playing on the road vs 100,000 drunk Cajuns.

If you want to see the opposite of that look go back and see what Batemans face looks like when hes trying to make up his mind if he is gonna try to run for a first down and take a hit, or throw the ball away... thats called the "I just shite my pants," look. Thats what you do not want on the road vs 100,000 drunk Cajuns.

What is Bateman going to do that Hurts cant ? Pitch the ball to the WR's on jet sweeps ? Throw five yard check down passes ?

Batemen = Blake Sims - He has put the work in, and he could absolutely win a lot of games for this team, but he is likely too limited to win a title. In the end as Bama fans isnt that all we ultimately care about ?

If Hurts starts this year is there any doubt that November/January Hurts is much better than November/January Bateman ? Bateman was taking reps at WR last year folks... give. me. a. break.

BB8 was running around using CNS for a block, and throwing pick 6's all spring. That is not a good sign. Stop trying to force a square peg into a round hole. If a player doesn't look ready they are not ready. If BB8 runs around like a chicken with its head cut off during ADay by george I'd be scared shitless to see what he would do in death valley.

The next person that mentions cornhole as a viable option should be e-flogged.

We talk shite for fun, but in the end CNS will do whats best, obviously. If he runs Bateman out there then Bateman is our best shot, but is there anyone that wouldn't be extremely excited if Hurts takes the job ? Anyone that wouldnt be slightly disappointed about the prospect of watching Bateman poop his pants and pussy foot around all year ?

Why are you quoting me? I was talking about Cornwell. Cornwell is inaccurate and ain't gonna play.

I like Hurts and wish he somehow proves he is our guy, but I know Saban is going to go with seniority. Sucks for our WRs and our fans because with a better QB we would have an air raid offense you can't stack the box against. That means our RBs are that much more effective.

Oh well.

I would just hate for us to have all those deep threat weapons at WR and our QB not be able to utilize them in that way.

Hey, I think we all feel this way. We don't want to be LSU with 5 star all world receivers and nobody that can get them the damn ball. It will be a shame and quite sad if we have to run it 68% of the time and throw nothing but bubble screens.

The thing is, our staff knows a lot more about what we have at WR and what is needed from our quarterback to make Lane's offense click. I refuse to stubbornly throw away the possibility that any of them could step up this fall and win this job convincingly. Some folks have already predetermined that our offense will be a pile of shite with Bateman and that's just nonsense.
We are all licking our chops at the thought of Jalen Hurts running shite but we need to be patient and give the kid more than a few weeks practice imo.

Ding Ding

Hurts came right in and played scout QB for the Natty and our guys still couldn't catch him just like Watson.

Bateman has issue but some experience. This is not the same as the Blake Sims deal. I tried telling everyone Blake could throw but was being limited to help with playbook. Then low and behold he slings it. Bateman isn't doing this, I've watched his deep ball time and again, it's weak. It has to improve. He might. 49 days, be patient and time will tell.

Bateman- probable starter. Plays like a pussy, deer in the headlights. Always takes the safer higher percentage throw vs the higher risk/reward throw even if both are wide open. Doesn't always make the best decision, makes the safest decision, even in the running game. Doesn't have the moxie to win a title. If someone can put the game on his shoulders, we're in trouble.

Barnett-the former chosen one who's been too busy chasing tail to up his game. Should be locked in a film room with Kiffin and a case of red bull until he gets his shite together and wins the job he was brought in to win. Needs to quit trying to be superman and just be above average man. With our defense, might be worth a couple of turnovers to see if he can learn the job.

Cornwell- Sadly SMH. No hope.

Hurts- F*ck it, he's got all the tools just not the knowledge. Throw him out there for some on the job training. Give him the job. Most upside, most eligibility left. It's a win-win.

Basically my opinion, but things CHANGE!...the light comes on some times. The one thing that we can count on is that the coaching staff will best know which way to take this...they've done it before.

Bateman's final drive at Aday

Please, and this is to anyone, watch Bateman operate our starting Offense (with a rush in his face) in the 2-minute drill, moving down the field against our starting D, and please tell me where there is evidence for doubting he can make all the throws necessary for us to be effective.

Sure, the drive ends with a pick cause he threw it a tick late, but this drive is the only drive of the game where we looked like we had a serviceable SEC Offense and the best any QB looked all day. Bateman actually looked really good here.

He had two good throws that ended with drops (including a REALLY good one to Ridley).

That said, even his deepest throw to Stewart, about 30 or so yards, starts to lose its spiral. There's clearly something with his mechanic.

The issue is that he's been coached long enough that it should already be fixed. True, I'm no coach, but when you consider all the time as a HS and CFB QB, those types of issues should be fixed.

Of course. If they decide Hurts is the best option, then that's fantastic.

Not a single one of us knows how he will pay if he's named the starter. It is once again worth mentioning that AJ had two chances to be the hero in 2010 when he subbed for an injured McElroy (South Carolina and Auburn). He flubbed it both times. In 2011 he won a national title.

If the staff goes with Bateman, I won't be sitting there waiting to see him fail. I'll be sitting there waiting for him to show us what he can do.

McElwain says there's a lot more to being a Qb than being able to throw it 80 yards.

I agree. And I'm having trouble understanding why anyone who watches college football on a semi-regular basis thinks arm strength is the end all be all.

Danny Wuerffel threw like a girl, but a girl who put it on dime 99% of the time.

Joe Montana was no gunslinger, but he did alright.

Hell, look what Peyton Manning did this year in the NFL with a good defense and a barely functional arm.

Avoiding turnovers >>>>>>>>>> arm strength

With Saban's style of game management and Kiffins offensive scheming, we only need a QB talent equivalent of Greg McElroy.

The Oline will be the biggest factor this year, not the QB.
