This might be old news but I heard that Austin has looked pretty good so far in practice. He can shoot, has a strong drive and is athletic. Heard that Ingram is huge, has nice handles and a very fluid athlete.

Expect Hale to be our leading scorer too.

Not much info but thought somebody else might be interested.

People lost sight of Hale's performance his freshman year. I can't remember if it was against Duke or some other team, but he broke out early and was one of our impact players to compliment Releford. Needs to be more consistent outside the arc though and more aggressive when attacking the rim.

Justin Coleman and Riley Norris were two players who had significant playing time as freshman last year. Both were had their ups and downs. Really need them to step up this year if Avery is going to implement the fast-break offense.

If you hear anything about Hall, please post.

He may need a year, but I think he has a great future .

We've been using a 20 second shot clock at practice.

Actually I did... Heard that his physique is almost identical to Taylor's already. Heard he's slightly more explosive and tries to dunk everything. Was told not to expect too much out of him this year but that he has the potential to develop into a nice piece in the future.

Also heard that CAJ really got on to Coleman for passing up shots and driving lanes. Says he wants Coleman to be more aggressive offensively and attack the defense.

This appears to be a transition year to me. We lack not just top end talent but also upperclassmen. With that said, a fast break, uptempo game should help our guys develop better since there will be more possessions to learn from. Coleman should be one of the primary beneficiaries. I like Norris too because he can play in any line up and find ways to contribute. RTR

I don't expect a 21+ win season by any means- especially with this years schedule. However, I would be a bit disappointed if we didn't get at least 1-2 wins that we shouldn't and avoid the games we shouldn't lose. We still have some talent with Hale, Obasahan, Coleman showed some flashes as freshman last year, and then our interior men with Hale and Taylor. Not a lot of depth inside yet, so we may see similar problems to last year like for instance, getting beat on the back boards and letting teams getting 2nd chance opportunities.

I haven't been this excited about basketball season in a good while. Absolutely love what Avery Johnson is doing. The energy. The personality. The charisma. He's the opposite of Anthony Grant.

Just this right here makes me more excited for Bama hoops than I have been in many a year. It got unwatchable for me.

not to beat a dead horse but whoever hired AG did not do their job in vetting things out. His personality and do nothing with publicizing the program did not just start when he got to Bama. Thank goodness, by hiring AJ, the program wont be set back one bit.

Yep. No more lethargic half-court that shoots the ball up at the last second, praying it goes in.

Watching the video on RollTide.com when they got back to practice, coach Avery seemed way more hands one and more attentive about things. I know it was the first day, but it's great to see shite like that.

I agree. Grant isn't a bad coach, it was just a bad fit.

That wouldn't have mattered if he would have just won games. People forget that Coleman was packed for his first two years. There was a lot of excitement around the program, but it's like he changed his entire philosophy around year 3 and things went downhill quickly.

his O philosophy was the same. People got tired and saw through the hype that brought him to Bama. Probably a finer man you will never meet, but was not cut out for a big time program that had to compete with football. He had to sell it every day and he refused to get on radio shows to help sell it. Our recently retired gymnastics coach was on WJOX all the time doing PR for her program and she even said that AG needed to do the same.

Yes, you really have to sell the program to get people to come to a gymnastics meet. For basketball, all you have to do is play an exciting style and win. People didn't stop going to games because he wasn't doing radio interviews. They stopped going because we were losing.

No it wasn't. Go watch how we played the first two years and compare it to last year and it is night and day. We played a lot more like how AJ is wanting us to play this year.

there was a slight change last year in some games but was not consistent. But at that point he had lost all but a few faithful.

You have to sell your program to all kinds of fans even in BB. With what the Gymnastics coach did at Bama she did not have to PR it at all. She chose to do it because it was the way of selling the program to all fans and just not the die hard fans. We are a FB team first and AG needed to sell it to the entire fan base plus produce a good product. He did neither well which cost him his job.

You don't need much of an O philosophy when you're smothering opponents and holding them to season lows. Was it exciting? Not really, the best moments of the AG era where fast break turnovers on defense which lead to Senario Hillman, JaMychal Green and Tony Mitchell slams. We were winning and honestly, if Grant had kept winning and began making runs into the tourney instead of pitching tent just outside the NIT, he could be as stoic as he wanted.

Yeah I know what you mean. Hate getting beat on the glass. I worry about Taylor fouling out due to increased possessions and our bigs not being able to run the floor.

Actually I worry about a lot more too but I don't want to come across as a Debbie Downer. The main thing I'm looking for this year is improvement within the season. I'll be satisfied with a .500 record if we play an exciting brand of basketball and improve throughout the season.
