Maybe Hurts was nervous, but he sure didn't show it...and Barnett did. After the first series, my son and I both mentioned that Barnett looked rattled. Even after the 2 turnovers, Hurts didn't seemed phased at all. He looked calm passing the ball and he made his 2 TD runs look easy...and his first TD pass to Stewart was a dart...

Maybe Hurts "showed it" by turning the ball over twice? While Barnett "showed it" by... I don't know, apparently his eyes looked funny to some people.

I just think people are jumping to silly conclusions based on a few comments by the announcers and Saban that have been way overblown.

Again, I do think Hurts has the edge. But, I think it's only because of his running ability at this point. Barnett held his own in all other categories.

Anyway, it really doesn't matter what we think. I just don't like the overreactions one way or the other. We get to watch it play out on the field.

I thought about this and I think it may be a possibility that he may get to grad transfer out. This is blakes current situation. Yes unfortunately he may not win the job this year. However, he is the backup qb this year. He will of course stick around until the end of the season and then possible transfer. However, why not stay that transfer year at Alabama finish a degree and grad transfer to another school "Coker 2.0 situation".

So my guess is Alabama has a backup qb in Blake for 2 years. What you think?

Again the first turnover was not hurts fault been proven talked about time and again.

I completely agree with this, but that running ability makes a massive difference.

Yes, I've heard it ad nauseam. However, if Barnett had held onto the ball too long on that read, caused a fumble, then tried to scoop it up rather than falling on it, you'd be all over it like you were his scrimmage performance. You wouldn't be pinning it all on the RB, whose fault it may have partially been.

I would place the blame where it goes whomever it was.

If you weren't at the scrimmage please don't comment on my observation or your perceived bias. Sorry I have seen who is the better choice until proven otherwise.

Don't be salty just roll with it, let's see how sat goes maybe hurts implodes.

How does Hurts get credit for the pick 6 or the punter laying down at the 12 yard line?

I'm going to give Hurts the pick 6 and Barnett the punter lay down....it's a wash

Maybe, but it didn't seem to affect him much, as he led 4 scoring drives after the fumble (albeit one was a very short one) and another scoring drive immediately after the interception. Could Barnett have done the same thing? Maybe, but Saban took him out and left Hurts in for a reason...

Maybe...but after the first series, before any comments by announcers or Saban, I thought he looked like a deer in the headlights...doesn't mean he was, just what I was thinking at the time. Barnett seemed different when he came back in...if he continues to play like that (those passes to OJ and Dieter were big time throws), the competition will be very interesting...

As you say, we'll just have to watch how it plays out next week...I'm guessing Saban wants to have a bona fide starter by the Ole Miss game...

Most everything in here is exaggeration. Hurts is obviously the guy right now and Blake is a great option as well. The oline needs to gel and get their collective shite together.

All high horses need to be dismounted in here. Especially those correcting what witnessed by all.

i think it comes down to barnett wanting to start one year earlier than he would here.

if he transfers or grad transfers then he'll still only be one more year away from starting for bama if we're saying hurts leaves after 3 years.

the last two guys who waited til their senior year to start here turned out alright.

Hurts received almost all reps today with 1 team. I expect he will start based on that.

not a suprise at all. i suspect we see quite a bit of barnett against wku, but i can't imagine a scenario where hurts isn't at least 1A to barnett's 1B.

there may come a time later in the season where barnett has the hot hand, hurts struggles, etc. it'll take care itself come ole miss, but if i had to put money on who the starter is going forward it would be hurts without hesitation.

Saban benched BB for those funny looking eyes. Mock that.

One thing is for certain, you guys will continue this all season when Hurts is made the starter.

Nobody hates BB. Stop it. Mu only concern with him is how he rattles under pressure. I prefer Hurts because he is a true dual threat.

fricking this.

Arguing over 2 capable QBs is ridiculous. It's a good spot to be in as fans. No need to take it personal.

It's surprising how many forget how competition ramps up once we get deep in SEC play. Remember "Gmac 4 heisman" until he played legit SEC defense? Then it was Ingram @ wildcat to save the day.

It wont be settled this weekend either. Just enjoy the ride and be glad we have more than 1 viable option.

Idk where else to put this and it's not important enough for it's own thread, so it'll go right here.

BB's 3rd down play on his first drive was the exact reason why Hurts will win this job. Pre snap USC had 10 players AT the line. Only one of them dropped back at the snap. Barnett could have thrown a TD to Dieter in the slot with his left hand.

He didn't just miss a blitz. The entire USC defense was at the damn line. Hurts doesn't frick that up.
