think barnett sticks around to start as a senior?

he may end up starting before then, but let's say hurts starts for three years.

Maybe Bateman stays. I think more likely than BB at least. If not I hope Mac Jones can be a backup. Either way I want to RS Tua Tagavoila so he'll only be a soph by 2019

i don't "like" the idea of hurts and taga being only one year apart either.

just hoping barnett stays on because if he transfers he'll have to sit a year and would only be one more year away from starting for us.

it's not like him waiting two more years with us vs one year with who knows what isn't appealing.

From Saban's press conference, it's not even settled who will be the starter for the rest of the season yet...

he had a big lead and the game was over, but those were two nice passes to oj and dieter ... esp the one to oj ...

BB was 5 of 6 for 100 yards and one throwing TD

Hurts was something like 6 of 11 for 2 throwing TD and 2 running and a fumble and a pick

QB ratings I saw had BB higher rated. So I doubt this thing is settled.

But I do like Hurts composure. BB may not need to start so as to get the willies out of his system.

Barnett played very well overall in my opinion. Even early on I was more mad at Kiffin for some silly play calls. He threw some darts when he came back in. He didn't put the ball in danger. No major mistakes.

Hurts mobility is what will scare other teams. USC was not prepared to play against him. They didn't know how to line up against him. It lead to some major busts in coverage. He obviously doesn't have the polish that BB does throwing downfield. But dang we are pretty dynamic with our play calling potential with Hurts.

Both players played well after slow starts. I don't know how it will shake out. If they can keep their egos in check, and keep the team United, it's not insane to play them both this year. Maybe the hot hand finishes the game. It will give teams a lot to prepare for on the practice field at the very least.

i don't think it's quite settled either. just looking at the qb situation next year. i hope we can keep both of them and rs taga.

Barnett will be a competent backup this year and sneak some snaps in... Particularly if Hurts throws some INT's.

However, Hurts is the long term QB on this roster... And Tua is basically a left handed clone. When the time comes, it will be a great luxery for Sarkisian to have a legit dual threat to backup Hurts.

Long story short, Barnett will never be the man at UA. Looks like a solid backup option though. I'm about 99% sure wherever Kiffin ends up next year, so will Barnett.

I believe BB was first in line at practice yesterday. I predict BB starts this weekend. Remember, the key to playing QB for Saban is to not turn it over. One guy did that twice, the other didn't.

Don't know how accurate it is, but the one report I saw had Bateman first in line, then Barnett, then Hurts, and then Cornwell...

ETA: Just read another report that had Barnett first in line so who knows...

BB would likely start this game again anyway, reason why: He needs to show Saban he can start and not freak out. Hurts is still the guy but BB needs to prove he can play when needed.

that sounds about right. if hurts keeps it up then i think he's def the starter as the season goes along, but barnett is gonna get some pt.

i just hope barnett stays and waits to start his senior year. if he transfers he'll get to play one year earlier so i wonder if that's even worth it to him.

he'll be sitting out next season if he leaves so maybe he'll stick around. not as if he won't get any playing time.

BB would be wise to stick around either way. At worst he starts his senior year and who knows if Hurts gets injured or has a slump or whatever he could take over before then. You look at guys like Sims and Coker who waited patiently until their senior years and it paid off for them. They started and won titles and both got a shot with NFL teams. That's all you can really ask for IMO.

He might have had a look that Saban didn't like on the sideline, but really, what did he do so wrong in the game?
He got clocked by a guy that Harris didn't block when Harris misread who to pick up. His 1 incomplete pass was a swing pass to the flat. Other than that?
I thought his passes later in the game looked like bullets.

He was not settled at all, he didn't do anything and that's the problem

When you have a 30 point lead things become much easier and less pressure. He has a nice arm and made some nice throws late in the game. But, when the team needed Hurts he stepped up. The fumble was both his and Harris fault, if you have ever played the read it's a fine line on how to pull and hold the ball. After that he did fine. Not saying he was without mistakes but Hurts made a huge dent in winning the team. Not to mention his speed is an absolute plus. Look what Francois did to Ole Miss.

Kiffins early play calling made it hard for either to get in a rhythm .
