I'm curious if DeBoer wanted to bring in Mack because he was losing Sayin or if he wanted to bring in Mack because he thought he was good enough to bring in even if it meant pushing out Sayin.

My guess he wanted depth in the QB room and someone that knows his system. He has Milroe returning which I believe will get the opportunity to prove himself, but after that based on experience our depth was not really great. Simpson maybe can flourish in our system and yes Sayin had the talent but if I am CKD Mack seems like the perfect 2nd on the depth chart if nothing else because he knows his system.

Milroe will get every chance to be #1 going in the fall but I also think CKD is going to put on the field who he thinks is not just the best but the most consistent. A lot of pressure this fall and he needs wins not the roller coaster we had this past year.

VERY raw.

Relative to D1 playing time ? Yes.

Raw with his footwork ? No way, he has great feet, look how still his head is when he moves around in the pocket.

His pocket awareness appears to be better than any of the QB's we have on roster, but that is moving at HS speed so definitely have to see how that translates, but Im super impressed with how naturally he steps into the pocket and then makes every little step he has to without being sacked and keeping his eyes downfield, and keeping his base in position to throw the ball. His head stays very still, like a HOF center fielder chasing a fly ball - their eyes dont bounce.

Understanding the system - I mean you'd have to say hes the most advanced of any of them for obvious reasons. He moved his way up the UW depth chart and was the next QB off the bench in last years title game. DeBear and Grubb both literally GUSH over this kid. They watched him in practice all season, and know more than any of us so... me thinks he's a good 1

If we hire an offensive coach and then immediately limit the offense by choosing a QB that cant run his offense I'll be disappointed.

I'm telling you this will not happen. They brought this kid in to play. They know Jalen might or might not be able to pull it off.

I think Milroe gets another level of quarterback coaching which will or won't do the trick.

If it doesn't, he'll be watching from the sidelines.

and experience as the back-up to the back-up for 8 months, he is still VERY raw
he ran off the backup QB to penix, Dylan Morris who was the #4 pro style QB of 2019 class, and was the projected next starter at Washington. Mack ran an advanced system (for high school) at Folsom and played remarkably well in the highest level of California football. I don't think he's going to be the starter next year, but I think he will be the backup and I think DeBoer will want him getting reps. so I imagine we see him earlier in games than we are used to getting backups in

I do 100% think he ran off Sayin. Sayin would have known who he was, they were Division 1 QBs in the same class until Mack reclassified. Folsom is a huge football program, Sayin would have been very aware of what he did at Folsom and that Mack had a year in the system already, and I think he noped out of competing with Mack.

I think this is a "win now" coaching staff. The qb will have to be able to run the offense when the whistle blows. Won't be running qb power to "accentuate the strengths of Jalen" if another qb can run the plays as drawn up.

I posted earlier he makes every throw you so effortless. Very quick release on short throws. Everything was on target. Again we have to see how it translate to SEC/DI play but he has the right attributes to be successful.

Not we do not have other QBs that will not be successful but many our rivals and some in here seem to think we settled for this kid as a consolation prize and he is not.

Exactly. Mack was DeBear and Grubbs guy- zero doubt. Mack didn't flinch to compete with Sayin, Sayin packed his bags (pun intended) and transferred.

I for one am happy to finally have a QB that can see over the fricken LOS. How many tipped balls per season does that cut down ? A dozen ?

Deep passes are actually the easiest read and throw for young QBs. It's a quick read of the safety and let fly. Not near as much traffic around the catch zone. Plus, receivers can adjust to the ball the longer it's in the air.

Short and intermediate routes are where QBs make their money. Throwing it accurately is at much more of a premium.

Folsom is 500 miles from Carlsbad. I don't seriously that Sayin has heard of Mack, especially since Mack was at UW last year.
Sayin left because he didn't want to compete or he isn't that good. This dude did nothing to be rated the number 1 qb in his class. He's mostly hype or it was a weak qb class.

Mater Dei's qb is going to Stanford.
Bishop Gorman's (NV) qb is going to Hawaii.
Chaminade-Madonna (FL) qb is going to NCSt.
IMG's qb is going to Liberty.
I can't find where DeSoto's qb is going.

That's 4 of the top 5 high schools in America, and none of them have a top 5 qb. I'm starting to think that '24 is just a weak class for qbs.

Raiola played at 3 different high schools and Sayin is from a school that isn't a traditional football power, and his stats aren't great. He's not even top 100 in passing yards in the state.

Even though they are from HS his highlights showing him hitting those passes with a quick release and in stride allowing the WR to get YAC.
