i admit i'm biased, i hate those video game offenses but if by some weird chance kelly ends up at bama, i'll still be screaming roll tide. i just remember the struggles he had against good defenses. plus his run in the nfl was short lived with that offense. to me, it seems there are way more reasons not to hire him, even if he would come.

Here's why it's not Napier and probably not Locksley: if Saban wasn't caught off guard by this move as has been suggested, why let Napier leave for ASU? Two weeks ago, you pull him aside and say be patient, trust me, something's gonna happen soon and you'll get your wish. No reason to let him move across country only to bring him back for the job he wanted before he left.

Locksley is probably the emergency failsafe plan. If he's the man, what are we waiting for? He's already sort of in place as co-OC. Remove the co- and let's roll if he's the guy. Obviously, he's not. At least not at this juncture. If CNS can't find anyone he likes better, maybe we go that route. But for now, Locksley isn't the chosen one.

It's George Godsey and, according to someone in the know, he was interviewed today. Haven't heard what the outcome of the interview was though.

Maybe Saban didn't know Sark was likely to leave until after Napier took the ASU offer. And since he accepted the job only a week ago, it's doubful he's signed a contract or already made much progress toward a permanent residence move. And maybe Saban talked to Napier about him possibly coming back to replace Sark whenever he moved on. I've seen nothing to make me think Napier is not a possibility.

Coaching rumors: Former NFL assistant George Godsey expected to interview for Alabama’s OC job
quote:

As reported by BamaOnline.com, George Godsey was to interview Wednesday for the role, which was left open after Steve Sarkisian was hired to be the Atlanta Falcons’ offensive coordinator on Tuesday.

Godsey was the Houston Texans’ offensive coordinator during the 2015 and ’16 seasons. He was the Texans’ quarterbacks coach in 2014. Prior to that stint, he was an offensive assistant (2011) and tight ends coach (2012-13) with the New England Patriots.

Godsey also has experience coaching in college. He began as a graduate assistant at UCF before becoming that program’s quarterbacks coach in 2005, then its running backs coach in 2009-10.

I'm sure Godsey is a good guy, but I'd rather go with someone else.

I'll freely admit that I'm partial to Godsey purely because I know his brother and I think it'd be good to have that possible connection in the athletic department

Former NFL coordinator expected to interview for Tide vacancy
quote:

Former college and NFL assistant coach George Godsey was expected to interview for the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach vacancy at Alabama on Wednesday, two sources told BamaOnLine.com.

Godsey spent the last six seasons in the NFL with the Houston Texans (2014-16) and New England Patriots (2011-13). Prior to that, he spent the beginning of his coaching career at Central Florida, where he earned his start as a graduate assistant. Godsey was elevated to quarterbacks coach at UCF in 2005 and moved over to the Golden Knights’ running backs coach in 2009-10.

He previously worked with Alabama offensive line coach Brent Key and associate athletics director for football Ed Marynowitz at Central Florida. In addition to working together at UCF, Godsey and Key were teammates at Georgia Tech.

Most recently, Godsey served as the offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. He coached quarterbacks for the club in 2014. Godsey and the Texans agreed to a mutual parting of ways following the 2016 campaign.

Godsey also served as an offensive assistant (2011) and tight ends coach (2012-2013) in New England.

As a player, Godsey was a two-year starter at Georgia Tech, where he guided the Yellow Jackets to consecutive bowl games while behind center.

I remember Goose Godsey. He was the qb after Hamilton at GT. Decent qb. And now we may be Alabama's oc. Damn I feel old.

He may still be a possibility but it doesn't fit logically unless Saban was blindsided by Sark's move. I think that is unlikely.
The Niners agreed to terms with Shanahan 3 weeks ago. They couldn't announce it, but he was locked up. So the Falcons almost certainly knew they needed an OC a couple of weeks ago if not longer. If Quinn knew and Sark knew, out of deference to their former boss, Saban knew. And if that's the case, he wouldn't have let Napier walk. Granted, that's a lot of ifs but I think too many people knew this was coming for Saban not to be one of them.

Where does Charlie Stubbs fit into the discussion?

He's got some next level offense

Why?

His offense with the Texans was horrendous. They play in the worst division in the NFL and he was demoted mid-season.

No thanks.

I'd rather take a chance on an up and coming coach than go with the Texans guy or Locksley.
