I'm a Kiffin fan and I am afraid that those that ranted so long against him are going to rue those days, but that said, our talent level is good enough that with an average game from an average quarterback coached by an average co-ordinator, I think we'd be celebrating another national title right now.

edit: Besides that, if it doesn't work out for whoever Saban hires, it may be another Major Applewhite kind of year. One and done.

I really really would like to beat FSU though. If they win that game, the Clemson and FSU fans are going to be intolerable.

Maybe he means news as in the proverbial "insider info" as opposed to plebeian news sources.

OK, let's play along with the premise that neither Godsey nor Dabol have put up stellar numbers in their past stints as OC. Here's my take on that: everyone ooh's and aah's over Dabol and his abilities, they just think he hasn't either put it all together yet or hasn't had the tools to work with to do the job. Godsey doesn't blow anybody's skirt up. If that's truly the case, it sounds like Saban and Belichik had a little talk and this will be a live audition for the Patriots OC job for Dabol. He gets all the talent anyone could possibly want or need to succeed except a QB who needs some tutoring and oh, by the way, that's part of the job description for his audition. If you succeed at Alabama like everyone thinks you should, you get the Pats OC job when McDaniels leaves for a head coaching job. If you don't, well, maybe you aren't what we thought you were. There's no excuse not to succeed at Alabama.

Alabama's Director of Football Operations, Justin Dickens, is reportedly leaving the Crimson Tide program.

After being hired by Nick Saban in 2015, filling the role left vacant by Joe Pannunzio, Dickens' name has been removed from the football team's staff directory on the Alabama Athletics website, as AL.com's Matt Zenitz first reported.

Prior to his stint in Tuscaloosa, Dickens was the Director of Football Operations at Michigan for the 2014 season after serving as the program's Public and Media Relations Director from 2011-13. Before landing the job at Michigan, Dickens spent seven seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, working his way up to Manager of Publicity (2006-10).

Dickens got his start as a graduate assistant in the athletics communications office at Georgia, where he earned his master's degree in education (sports management), from 2003-04 before joining the Indianapolis Colts organization.

Report: Alabama’s Director of Football Operations leaving program
quote:

Alabama’s Director of Football Operations Justin Dickens is leaving the program, according to AL.com, citing sources.

Dickens has served under Nick Saban since the 2015 season. He previously served as the Director of Football Operations at Michigan for the 2014 season. Prior to landing the job at Michigan, Dickens spent seven seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, and he worked his way up to Manager of Publicity (2006-10).

Dickens previously earned his master’s degree in education while working as a graduate assistant at Georgia. He earned a bachelor of science degree in public relations from Austin Peay State University in 2003.

Dickens just adds to the turnover at Alabama, a program that has seen two offensive coordinators leave (Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian), an offensive line/tight ends coach (Mario Cristobal) and its wide receivers coach (Billy Napier).

Saban is right in the middle of finding a new offensive coordinator currently, and he can afford to take his time and make the right hire because there isn’t a time crunch.

Dickens was in charge of the day-to-day management of the program as the Director of Football Operations. Team travel and budgeting manager are two other tasks usually associated with this position. Although it’s not an on-the-field coaching role, Dickens had a big responsibility at Alabama.

Boz: "I was told Joe Pannunzio for TE coach."

Media reports have also said Pannunzio for TE coach, though he's been in administration for the past few years. Hard to tell whether he may come back to coach or be Director of Football Operations. Maybe Saban prefers Pannunzio over Dickens, but had to let Pannunzio go eslewhere for a while due to his NCAA violations at Miami. Or maybe Dickens wants to be elsewhere.

Can we also search for a basketball offensive coordinator? If those exist.

So why the sudden departure with no reason given? This smells fishy.
