I think he's gone. Byrne isn't going to put up with this stuff.

I really hope Byrne can bank this next hire. No reason our baseball program shouldn't be competing at a high level.

Well, it's pretty clear Byrne fired him yesterday. He didn't waste any time. You would think he has some folks lined up to talk to.

Byrne has proven he can make good baseball hires so I'm optimistic. We brought him in because he has such a sterling reputation across the country. Anxious to see it payoff.

I'm confident in Byrne too, but I try to remain level headed in situations like this. I thought Goff was a solid, not great, hire, and he turned out awful.

We, the fans, tried to put a good spin on a rushed, poorly vetted hire, myself included. Goff was on nobody's radar, then suddenly, Battle announces him as new baseball coach. I'm telling you all, we freakin' lucked out with Avery calling and bailing Battle's arse out after the Marshall fiasco. The man didn't want to hire coaches and he sucked at it. This is the result.

I agree. He lucked up and Avery fell right into his lap.

Honestly, this couldn't have worked out any better. Byrne gets to hire a replacement and the program hasn't been completely destroyed from a PR standpoint. Still have the new stadium, great AD, money commitment, etc.

I will say - I'm not sure about Jay Johnson. I know the run they had last year at Arizona, but West Coast guys coming east has really blown up in people's faces in the past (see Tennessee).

Well there's a rumor out there that Johnson was contacted by Byrne and expressed interest in the job and that's why Byrne felt confident enough to go ahead and pull the trigger.
