I have a hard time seeing him at Auburn or UGA. UGA offered later than us by a few months and Auburn is only recently in the picture. We might not have extended the offer until the spring, but we have been recruiting him longer and our offer came before most others.

Despite what I've said in the past, Jones is a top priority to the staff and it has nothing to do with how we feel about other guard targets.

I'm definitely nervous about Pastner grabbing Sexton. He is going to want a big splash in the 2017 class to show he can keep Metro kids in Atlanta, and Sexton is a prime candidate for that (since Wendell Carter and MJ Walker appear to be long gone).

I hope you're right about the Georgia and Auburn part.

It definitely would've been nice had Sexton gone ahead and committed to us instead of continuing to entertain other schools. I'll be interested to see what schools he plans to take officials too.

I'm more worried about Florida, GA Tech and FSU for Jones. That's who I think our main competition is. I'm pretty sure we have invested more time with him than any other program.

I want to say Dan posted on the rivals main forum probably a month back that Florida was a legitimate threat for him.

Have you heard anything new on any of our other targets?

I haven't heard anything, but I'm in a weird spot where all of the sudden I have more confidence in us landing Petty than Sexton.

I haven't mentioned it, but I am legitimately concerned that Sexton could end up somewhere else now. I really hope I'm just being pessimistic.

John Petty talks Bama visit: LINK

quote:

The state's top basketball recruit for 2017 came away impressed after his official visit to Alabama this past weekend.

Mae Jemison senior guard/forward John Petty toured the campus and met with second-year Crimson Tide coach Avery Johnson.

"He just basically laid it all out on the line," said Petty, the reigning Alabama Mr. Basketball. "He said what he was expecting to overcome as a program. He told me how he's going to build it. "It sounded very, very good." The 6-foot-5 Petty has Alabama in his top five, along with Kentucky, Kansas, UConn and Florida State. He expects his next official visit to be Kentucky, though no date has been set. Petty reiterated his desire to commit by December. "I was excited," he said of his trip to the Capstone. "They gave me a tour of the campus. They told me about the academic side of the school and basic information. "I toured everything, just about. I toured the football facilities. I was real impressed." Petty is rated five stars by ESPN, and four stars by 247Sports, Rivals and Scout. ESPN ranks him as the No. 7 shooting guard in the nation, while 247Sports has him as the country's No. 8 small forward. Petty averaged 19.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.8 steals while leading J.O. Johnson to a second consecutive 5A state championship in the program's final year. He was also named Gatorade Alabama Player of the Year. Alabama's facilities weren't the only thing Petty praised. "They care about all their sports and all their people," he said. "It's just a loving atmosphere."

Nothing groundbreaking. I don't want to say something and then have it blown out of proportion.

So many things are still up in the air but Garza has a spot if he wants it. Brown is more of a possibility than what most think. I think we're in for a tremendous class.

Btw, Giddens is good.

Garza has said he wants to come back for an unofficial at some point before deciding so hopefully he can work that out. If it came down to getting two of Reese, Hammonds, and Garza, I'd take the first two but I would be happy with any of them.

Garza's visit will probably be an official. I'd rank them the same way, but Garza is still a stud.

Such is the reality of bball at a football school. The blue bloods of CBB will always be a threat, which is why I'm not crazy of hoping for big time talent to turn things around. I wish as a state we would look at basketball the way the Spanish pursue their sports, emphasize fundamentals above all else including athletic freaks. Sort of like how Wisconsin and Gonzaga has done.
