I remember his freshman year he came up and made strong, physical tackles from the CB spot. That combined with his play in coverage indicated he could be a complete, elite CB.

Last year he had 2 or 3 very prominent missed tackles late in the season. I don't know for sure, but it could be due to lack of confidence in his knee causing him to play hesitant. I remember Hightower playing with hesitation the year after his knee injury and it greatly affecting his play. Hopefully EJ can have a bounce back year in year 2 following his knee injury the way Hightower did.

that's what i'm hoping too. im not trying to hate on EJ. i really like him. It's just that im concerned about the tackling of the secondary as a whole. If EJ really is the best tackler we have back there, then it's a damn good thing that we've got the front 7 we do.

We have said it enough, but I just wanna say again how badass the front 7 is going to be this year.

I like all the TDs to TEs and agree that using 2 TEs may really help our OL with protection. My only concern is the depth on the OL.

D Thompson at WR interesting if he says there. The DBs seem to be finding their place. Also happy Rueben staying healthy out there. Him and Reggie should solidify the front 7.

I predicted big things for Lake starting in 2013, but he hasn't really broken through. Maybe this year will be the year. He definitely has the size.

im actually really excited for the defense this year. i think we are going to have the best DL in the country, probably the best LB corp (certainly the best individual player in ragland), and i think the combination in the secondary of young but super athletic and talented players plus experienced guys plus dedicated db coaching will yield a big improvements over last year. It still will probably be the weakest part of the defense, but only because the DL and LBs will be great.

I'm a little scared but also optimistic about the future of all the guys at CB and if Hootie is a full time starter

I'd love to let Saban just let both MH and TB loose at boundary and move Geno down from S to money nickel and let Hootie & either J Cook and/or Harrison (our future at SS) get some rotation

The pass rush should be even more improved from a yr ago (as aptly mentioned in this thread lol) and Im excited also to see Reggie as the cover guy at MLB with SDH as his apprentice this yr and the potential of Reub the Hammer (for as long as he stays healthy) on the inside and others on the outside like Evans and Miller and Tim and I'm hoping a bounce back yr for Deval.

Putting it very lightly but D should be solid

The thing that scares me and the reason I think for the slack the last 2 yrs in the secondary has been as much about scheme as it is about talent back there. The lack of shut down man cover guys has been scarce in Bama's D since the last champ team and there is almost always an OC who can watch enough of any good D's film and scheme against a zone scheme in the secondary. We need thise lock down man boundary guys and I think that trend begins again this yr

Heard a rumor he has himself a good case of mononucleosis and and can't play football this spring. Should be back in the fall, but will be WAY behind.

Injuries that gave way to a serious bout of depression that hurt his rehab efforts

What I was told, staff is cautiously waiting but doesn't sound to promising or optimistic for a full return

Some of the new guys are less tactical and more road grader types (think DJ Fluker and Warmack rather than Barrett Jones) and Mario favors that type of guy
