We used to have athletes that could run and jump and energize a crowd and shoot and play defense and be good at basketball. Now we have none of that.

And if they are any of those things when they arrive they have it sucked out them by our technocrat coach.
Posted on 2/7/15 at 7:52 pm to SummerOfGeorge
Exactly. All of our big men are so unathletic.

Give the guy a chance guys, two more years and he will have us rolling, he just needs time

I agree. I was arguing to give him 3 more years to get his croots in. He has not had enough time to build his system. MG had 10 LONGGGGGG years to build it and look at the dynasty he had and all the championships and all the kids who went to the NBA. Then he ditched us for another school. Why MG did you leave us in the ditch.

Are you trolling or stupid?

He has to be trolling. People who would believe that are too stupid to use the internet.

The banghead was a dead give away he wasn't being serious.

I think this team had potential but the close losses killed this team's confidence. Just no energy or any kind of a winning attitude. I don't think we beat anyone with a pulse the rest of the way out.
IMO, the Arkansas game was the breaking point.

not trolling but tongue firmly planted in cheek. first of all MG did not put many in the NBA and he surely did not bring us championships. And he did not leave us for another he got his arse fired.

Close losses have been a long trend during his tenure. Our strategy of playing slow and killing time in order to win a game late hasn't paid off because we don't end up making winning plays.

Yep - it also seems to encourage stagnation on offense. We started this season off running and gunning (at least compared to prior years), but as we started playing better teams we have slowly but surely turned back into the same team that makes 19 passes around the wing, passes up good shots, probes the lane and then dribbles out and then takes a late shot clock shot.
Just time to be done with all that.

I agree. This team lacks so much. I love Levi, but he has no business being our best player. He is so limited in terms of abilities. He makes up for some with hustle and heart. We haven't had a pure shooter since Ernest Shelton. I can't remember the last legit big man. We don't play a brand of ball that attracts those type of players.

And when guys with any sort of ability to be good big men get here we add NOTHING to it.
Taylor and the Mississippi kid should be/have been very good defensive big men who matured into being serviceable offensive big men by their late sophomore/junior seasons. Taylor looks like he has never been taught a single thing about offensive basketball. HE HAS BEEN HERE 2 YEARS.

Exactly. You can tell he has athleticism. None of our bigs have "a move". It is all just blind hook shots or dunks.

Compared to the CMG era when you knew every year we'd have a crafty big who had been taught how to play down low. We had our faults with CMG (lots of them), but you could always count on having a scrappy big down there.
Dudley, Davis, Davidson, Hendrix

Watching the 2004 MSU game at Coleman on SECN. The stadium is sold out and rocking. Ernest Shelton is showing out. Pettway is good. Winston Kennedy is eratic (should have never declared early). Davis was a man inside. Fun to watch. Total 180 from what this program is now.

Funny you say that because so did I, even knowing how it would end.
That place was alive.
