Legendary NBA big man Shaquille O'Neal has been sued by Donnie Wilson, a longtime associated of the NBA Hall of Famer, who filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court. He is accusing O'Neal, his Jersey Legends Productions co-founder Michael Parris and the company of breaching contract and numerous violations...
quote:

Ron Zambrano, the attorney for Wilson took a shot at O'Neal in a statement.

“Shaquille O’Neal certainly can come across as everyone’s best friend, just a big jovial guy — apparently until he owes you money. He hid from attorneys for months trying to serve him in a class-action lawsuit over the bankrupt FTX crypto exchange and his endorsements of the company and now he’s basically doing the same with Mr. Wilson, hiding from his financial obligations,” Zambrano said. “It’s just shameful behavior by a celebrity of his status.”

Wilson claims he was never compensated for his work at Jersey Legends Productions.

“During the production of these works, [Wilson] worked with O’Neal. Parris told [Wilson] that O’Neal knew Plaintiff was neither getting paid and was still not getting any formal recognition of his status as part-owner of Jersey Legends,” the lawsuit read. “Per Parris, O’Neal knew [Wilson] was going to be made part owner and would be taken care of in the end.”

I read the book about the dude who founded FTX. I'll have to double check, but Shaq's only involvement was that he was paid, some in crypto, to endorse it. He is known to not endorse anything he doesn't believe in, but with people like Tom Brady and others on board, after talking with them he felt it was a good company to get involved in. That was the amount of involvement he had in it, how can you sue him for representing a company he had no idea would go bankrupt because they had the financial records to show good projections.

Until you have a provision in civil suits that says "loser pays" you will always have suits going after settlements since it is often cheaper to settle than go to court. If you had the option to fight it and win with a "loser pays" provision, it would cut down on much of the suits filed with an intention of black mail and settling.

I've been sued 3 times in business and never went to court. Never loss and was actually in the right all 3 times. People find a lawyer and game it as the lawyer plays along. However it does cost to get representation and it sucks. Most people settle out of court for money!!!! You are right this needs to be changed bc anyone can sue anyone and get money.

Because Shaq is so small and unassuming, and since he never appears in public, I can see how easily he hid from the attorneys.

It must not be a small chunk of change. With all of the damn commercials Shaq does, seems like he could easily pay him to go away, unless it's some life-changing money.

I can easily see Shaq not giving into false claims that he owes someone money, when he feels he doesn't owe them shite. Shaq is the most giving celebrity that I know of. Somehow I doubt these claims are true.

Or, it may be since Shaq does have FU money, he'll fight it to send a message to any other prospective freeloaders.

"He hid from attorneys for months" - this is a hilarious statement. These idiots don't know where to find Shaq? He's in the same TV studio every week for TNT.

while also being one of largest human beings on the planet, and probably the most recognizable person on the planet. His whereabouts are probably known at all times.
