Tracy Rocker sat in Mark Richt’s office, in the furthest corner of Georgia’s football facility, late last January. Rocker, then with the NFL’s Tennessee Titans, was interviewing for the vacant defensive line coach position in Athens, and he knew little about Richt. Namely, that the Georgia head coach, for all his stoicism, keeps a running monologue wherever he goes.

So, when Richt paused during the interview, suddenly deep in thought, and said, “Tracy Rocker…didn’t you coach Nick Fairley?”

Rocker shifted in his chair. He had, in fact, coached the dominant (and controversial) defensive tackle at Auburn in 2010. When Georgia visited Jordan-Hare Stadium that year, Fairley drew several personal fouls for spearing redshirt freshman quarterback Aaron Murray. Former Auburn assistant Trooper Taylor had to drag Fairley off the field in the fourth quarter.

“Yeah, I didn’t like that too much,” Richt continued.

Rocker got the job anyway.

So...in all honesty...I don't think I'd want to hire a guy who coached that POS and apparently condoned through association his on field behavior. There's a difference between having hard arse Dlinemen and supporting a dirty cheap shooting guy who intentionally tried hurt other players.

What am I missing?

He's our a-hole coach now so it's okay.

Exactly, I don't really care if he is somewhat a dick, as long as he does it for us.

ding ding ding

I much rather defend OUR a-hole dislodging QB spines than vice versa. We could get into the whole "morality" thing but that's for squares.

So late hits and cheap shots are okay as long as we're the ones that are giving them.....gotcha. They're even better if they don't get called...and maybe if we're luck we can get in a good eye gouge in the pile.

Nice......

Agree and 2 things:
1. I would guess that Nick Fairley's behavior had more to do with him being a thug than Rocker's coaching.

2. I'm pretty sure, since Richt brought up the subject, that he made it clear to Rocker that such behavior by our players will not be tolerated.

Did you see any of that this year? I highly doubt that's the way he coaches.

Well, that's the whole point. Fairley did that crap all year long and his encouragement was coming from higher up than Tracy Rocker. Otherwise it would have stopped long before the Georgia game. Also interesting that Coach Rocker left after 2011 and Auburn fans have hinted many times that there were some hard feelings. I doubt it was because Chizik was upset that Rocker was a cheater.

Nick Fairley is the biggest piece of shite in recent memory. The thing is, Fairley would've been a fantastic player without the cheap shots...But he took them anyway...in pretty much every single game he played.

Rocker might be a good coach, but he better keep that kind of shite off the field. The good news is I don't think Richt would tolerate it anyway.

I agree....I can't imagine our coaching staff condoning late hits and targeting....
