Do you also blame Dillard's, Macy's, JC Penney, Brooks Brothers, Joseph A Bank, etc for pushing the old General Stores out of business?
What about Whole Foods? Theyre putting local natural food stores out of business left and right. Our local Ozarks Foods here is about to take a huge hit in under a year.
What about all the Targets? I bet you're a Target shopper...you probably think it's a cool alternative to shop there.
Target pays less for products than Walmart, yet marks their prices higher in an attempt to make more money so they don't go out of business.
What about Whole Foods? Theyre putting local natural food stores out of business left and right. Our local Ozarks Foods here is about to take a huge hit in under a year.

I'm not a fan of big box stores across the board. But Walmart is easily the worst of the bunch. And they have a tendency to attract some of the worst trash in the area because of their price points and product quality. I'll pay a little more at somewhere like Target if need be to avoid dealing with that.
But FWIW I buy majority of my produce at either our local farmer's market or some of the smaller stores that carry local products. Or I just grow it myself in the summer. If I can't manage that I'm shopping at Kroger.

He suggested I do all my shopping at other box stores. And yeah, I think it's better to put your money towards your local economy and farmers when it's possible. Why wouldn't that be a good thing?

exactly- you hear the complaints about walmart because they are the biggest and best at what they do. i see amazon is now getting the same treatment.
my family recently purchased some tables from a company called ecovet out of nwa which uses reclaimed wood from walmart pallets or from their trailers or something. anyway, the company is a veteran based company and is green and is using walmart throwaways to make their product. the moral of the story is that walmart is not all bad nor is everything that comes from walmart bad or an attempt at screwing the little guy.

I try to do this as well. I also do most of my big box retail shopping at Costco.

I only go to Farmers' Markets to tip over their tables and flip over their stands. Down with small businesses and weakling farmers.

Small business needs to figure out how to survive. Can't beat them on price? Beat them on specialization and service. Justify your higher prices by added value.
