As some of you may know, I will be moving to Bay City, TX in a couple weeks. Really excited about the move, but admittedly don't know much about the area. Any expertise is welcome.
Can't wait for our matchup to open the season. Any of you guys making the trip? I know it'll be difficult with it being a Thursday game. One of the reasons I won't be there.
I did notice College Station is just a few hours away. Would it be worth it to hit up a game? If so , which one? I've never been and would love to see the unique traditions you guys have and some all around good football. I might even wear an A&M shirt. That is only if we win our game though. I tend to hold grudges.

I'd personally wait until next year. If you're going to spend money on our kinda pricey tickets, I'd wait until you guys make your trip to the fully completed stadium

I don't know much about Bay City but if you like to fish I'm pretty sure that whole area is awesome for it. You aren't too far from HTown either.
I would definitely hit up College Station for a game. Ole Miss will probably be a good one assuming you'll be elsewhere for LSU on Tday

Always worth it to watch SEC football. Like Shane said, Ole Miss would probably be your best bet this season. GarnetWay and you should join us if a bunch of us from the board get together for a game.

Yeah I would wait to buy tickets until next year. It's probably way too late to get a hotel room for OM if you want to really drink but I would just go and wander around the tailgates and watch the game at a tailgate or at Northgate
Or stay with your fellow cock who's going to grad school there next year

Bay City has a nuclear plant.
And good fishin.
And there's normally alot of talent on the Black Cat football team.
The longest continual high school football rivalry in Texas is the Bay City Black Cats vs the El Campo Ricebirds.
Go Ricebirds!!!

I'll have to get me a new rod.
Might check out the Ole Miss game if I have enough funds. Sounds fun. Otherwise, waiting until next year for South Carolina to be in town sounds like a solid plan.
Thanks for the advice!
Is HS football in TX as big as it is portrayed? Also, I feel like I know the answer to this, but it would be creepy if I went to a high school game wouldn't it?
Probably
I just want to get my sports fix since I won't be going to the Carolina game anymore.

Yes. And I don't think it would be that creepy if it was a big game or there was a big time prospect you were going to watch but I dunno. Bay City is probably only like an hour and a half from Houston if you want the big leagues

Didn't realize you'll be moving out there. I'll be moving to College Station late to July for grad school there. Outside of LSU they don't have much of a home schedule but definitely can't wait for SC to travel to A&M in 2015. (they'll also have AU and 'Bama at home that year so certainly some games worth hitting up there)
Not sure how the schedules will shake out but I may be the only Gamecock fan at a baseball / basketball game when SC travels out there.
eta: With Clowney, Joseph, and Swearinger on their team I might have to hit up a Texans game as well.

Got a pretty good job opportunity out there. Always on the search for more money
TGW that's a good idea. Will definitely have to check out a texans game.

Welcome--to the board and to Texas!
I'm a native Houstonian, as are many of us here ... so if there's anything you need, just ask.
Your buddy, Garnet, is a great guy--I've zero doubt you're of equal quality. So far in the SEC, I've found SCAR fans to be much more hospitable and much less defensive and trashy than many of the fans from other schools.
Good luck with the move!

With what company? I did an Industrial Hygiene internship with LyondellBasell in Bay City. Technically the plant's address is in matagorda. There are some nicer areas, but there are some rough ones too. I recommend you go eat/drink at Fat Grass when you get there, it is the pearl of the town lol. I know a lot of the ppl at our plant carpooled from Lake Jackson, so there's something worth looking into, if you plan on staying for a while.

I'm doing an [edited]. Not the greatest job, but better than anything I've had so far. It's a wonderful opportunity for me. Anything to support my daughter!
