Matt Zenitz of 247Sports reports that LSU redshirt freshman edge rusher Jaxon Howard plans to enter the transfer portal.

Howard played in five games last season on special teams and as a backup at the edge, recording two tackles and one quarterback hurry. He has been playing behind Bradyn Swinson and Dashawn Womack during spring practice.

The 6-4, 241-pounder from Crystal, Minn. (Robbinsdale Cooper High School), was a former four-star prospect and the No. 1 rated player in Minnesota for the class of 2023.

From being the #1 player to being a couple of thousand Miles’s from home with no hope of seeing the field….I can’t blame the kid for transferring. He needs to go some where that he can get playing time. Thanks for being a Tiger.

"No hope of seeing the field" seems like a bit much. He's a redshirt freshman, behind a 5th year guy in Swinson and a more highly rated classmate in Womack. There was still time for him to have a role at LSU.

That said, it's just how a lot of things are in CFB with the transfer rules. From a kid's perspective, if you don't have to wait to see playing time, why do it?

Insiders know he was processed.

Insiders are wrong then. You don't process that athleticism as a sophomore.he was one of our most talented in that class

He’s a legacy of an NFL pro with all the measurables. No one got processed.

I am afraid this is going to become a norm. Heard a sports talk show yesterday that said NCAA committee meets in a couple wks and will recommend adoption of almost unlimited transfers in every sport with the only limitations being academic good standing and restriction from playing for two teams in same season. Someone will sue and get those thrown out too…

So you’d rather force Howard to stay here taking a scholarship that we could give to a new recruit even though Howard isn’t good enough to get any playing time?

I've been saying this for a couple years. Soon and I mean soon you will see someone play for two teams in a season and go to a third for the CFP.

We are going to see more than a handful of guys hit the portal by the end of the Spring Game. Just a numbers game. I hope these guys get a great opportunity outside the SEC.

It’s a stacked DE/ Jack room at this time. He can’t jump Swinson/ Womack, and I suspect Reliford would have jumped him anyway.

We need more spots so we can take DTs and maybe a high level DB.

Reliford plays SDE; Howard plays WDE.

We were supposed to be stacked last year with Mason Smith and that turned out great for the DL. We need all the help we can get yes…..

The writing was on the wall apparently. It said, "No Playing Time for You Here."

When you’re far from home and think you don’t have to earn your spot year after year this happens…

that's what happens when you sign kids from Minnesota lol. If they don't play they will leave. The local kids you sign will probably stay but not these kids from places like Minnesota
