According to The Advocate, Les Miles' contract buyout is roughly $9.6 millions and will be paid by LSU over six years.
quote:

The cost to buy out the rest of Miles’ contract will run LSU roughly $9.6 million, a source told The Advocate. That amount is payable over six years.

Miles’ buyout is listed in his contract at $12.9 million, but that amount is reduced by what Miles has already been paid in salary this year. Miles earned $4.35 million per year in total compensation at LSU — or roughly $3.3 million so far in 2016.

The buyout could be further reduced if Miles gets any other job in or out of coaching. Miles said Monday on "The Dan Patrick Show" that he would like to coach again.

This is why I little sympathy. The man will be fine. That is the salary of the average man for hundreds of years of work.

11-11 SECW, 15-11 SEC is the worst Coaching vs Talent in the FBS. "We have an obligation to our student-athletes to put them in the best position to have success on the football field each week". 12 players left since Jan, forgotten here, one is now a Team Captain after 4 weeks, playing like Treadwell. All Miles had to do was hire a real OC, visit Herman, Swinney, & Patterson like he promised and like Saban/Kiffen actually did and he could have consulted with all the top offenses like all other HCs do. With his best roster, #2 SEC, #5 FBS he could have won an NC & gotten >28 million over the next 4 yrs. Alleva told him to open the Offense. He said OK, then 1 week later said "NO changes". a He blamed Player Execution not lack of Tempo/Spread,RPOs, O-Line, or playing LF injured. He was averaging 17 ppg vs 38 ppg last yr against P5/SEC opponents. Everyone in CFB knows what the problem is at LSU, except a few die-hard fans.

So if he takes a job at 2MM per year and coaches 5 years we don't owe him a penny.

There should not be anymore long term contracts, I don't care who's fancy jet is parked at the airport supposedly 'wanting' the man....

long term contracts are useful to show support for the coach, primarily to help in recruiting. If a coach were year-to-year, that's too much of an unknown and would hurt recruiting badly.

And what coach do you propose to attempt to lure here with that philosophy?

1.6 million a yr!!! How many retiring CEOs get that after 40 yrs? That is Leonard's insurance policy if he gets hurt and cannot play in the NFL. Cry me a river of alligator tears. He doesn't deserve a penny. He should give it to the flood victims. What about just giving him a Game Clock, a Bubba Gump Shrimp hat, a picture of Bo Schembechler, a Michigan Season Ticket, and some disability insurance. After he got that insane 7 yr contract w/15 mil buyout he entered his worst stretch with best friend just-fired Cam who says they "share unconditional love greater than football". OVER the last four years he had the #2 SEC Roster, #5 National Roster and Zero Top Ten Finishes, going unranked in 2014. HE and Cammy had an 11-11 SECW, 15-11 SEC record. Now Cam has been fired 4 times and he gets 2 million.

uh, I'm thrilled Les is gone, but we have this thing in America called the rule of law. Les signed an enforceable contract with LSU and is legally owed this money. It pains me too to know the buyout is so large, but the blame goes on Joe Alleva who granted Les the extension, not on Les.
