Athlon Sports' Steven Lassan pegged LSU running backs Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice at No. 2 in his "Ranking the SEC RB Tandems for 2016" article on Thursday.

Fournette and Guice were No. 2 behind Georgia's Nick Chubb and Sony Michel who are both recovering from injuries.

quote:

2. LSU – Leonard Fournette and Derrius Guice Leonard Fournette smashed the LSU record book in his first full season as the starter and emerged as the nation’s best running back. In 12 games last year, Fournette rushed for 1,953 yards and 22 scores (both single-season LSU records) and led the nation by averaging 162.8 yards per game. Additionally, Fournette eclipsed 100 rushing yards in 10 out of LSU’s 12 games and recorded four performances of 200 yards or more. While Fournette is poised to challenge for the Heisman Trophy once again and is an easy pick for first-team All-America honors, backup Derrius Guice is due for more work in 2016. Guice flashed promise in limited action last year, rushing for 436 yards and three scores on just 51 attempts.

I bet there are NFL teams that would take Fournette and Guice as their top two backs in an instant.

Even if Chubb and Michel weren't coming back from injury I don't think anyone takes them above our 2 studs. And if you're ranking best for 2016 how can you put 2 injured backs #1? Turrible

L O L Fournette rushed for more yards than Chubb and Michelle combined, but we end up at number 2. Guice averaged 8.5 yards per carry!!!

Idiot. You do realize that Chubb missed 8 games last year due to an injury, right?

Fournette rushed for more yards than Chubb, Michel & Hershel Walker combined last year. WOW! L O L

@ForeverLSU02 Do you still not get that Fournette ran for, and scored more, than both of those two combined though? He only played in 12 games and sat out almost another full one when you take in South Carolina and Auburn games. Not even adding in Guice, Fournette already beats both of those guys just on stats from last year. To put both of those guys coming back from injury over two healthy and improved backs in Fournette and Guice, is well...it seems nonsensical.

They put Alabama at 4 with a combined 64 carries in their careers. L.O. fricking. L

Preseason, it's too early for that high of a ranking. But do you really expect Bama to not have a top 4 rushing attack in conference?

Bo roided doh.

@ CCTider, Bama was 6th in the SEC in 2014 in rush yards per game with two 5 star RBs, Kenyan Drake for 5 games, a bunch of other highly rated RBs, and a running QB.

The complete ignorance of these rankings pretty much speaks for itself. Nothing anyone can say could top it.

Lemme get this straight, two injured players are the two best running backs in the SEC? You believe that these two injured players are better than the 24 healthy running backs that you ranked above them? Discredited, turn in your press pass.

more pre-season click-bait, with a list of players that haven't played one single down in 2016. How about we just wait til after the season, then we'll know better.

Bottom line UGA has 2 fine running backs, however LSU has 2 stud running backs that are 2nd to no backfield. Athlon is a joke not worth the read.
