Former LSU defensive lineman Marcus Spears and current SEC Network College Football analyst had a very strong message directed to Tigers fans on Monday.

Spears, who played at LSU from 2001 to 2004 under Nick Saban said that LSU has become a "middle-of-the-pack, very average college football program."
quote:

"We aren't what we think we are," Spears said. "We’ve become a mediocre football team and a middle-of-the-pack, very average college football program. We have to stop believing that we are one of those teams that at the end of the year is going to be standing tall because it's been proven."

"A 61 percent winning percentage over the last five years? We’ve got to do better," Spears said. “We are no longer a championship team."

SEC record has been mediocre since 2012, but not in the NCAA. Ask Bama players, they say we're their toughest foe in the SEC. He's trying to stir things up. Get behind the Tigers or get on the hater bandwagon!

This is true.

Id just like to say that Mr Spears was an average defensive lineman in the NFL. Should have stuck with being a tight end.

Also one of the reporters on SEC Country stated the through those years we were the second best team in the SEC west. And we're far from being average and nowhere near a middle-of-the-pack college football program. We may not have been at Championship level but we're defintely not average. And by the way Spears is not the only exTiger analyst out there but he's the only negative one. Why is that?

From what I gathered from analyst Marcus Spears, he's not an LSU alum he's a Nick Saban alumn. Every chance he gets he praises Saban and bashes the Tigers and it's funny he's the only exTiger to do this.

I think he's trying to be unbiased and gain a little job security with the SEC Network. That's fine, but don't do it at our expense! Remember: Forever LSU!

People can chill on Marcus. Him and Michael Clayton helped build the LSU program into the championship caliber juggernaut that they were. Either could have left state when they were recruited like some cowards do today and like a lot of recruits did back then before we built the Louisiana fence. They stayed and made LSU a premier program. I have no problem with him speaking his mind about a program that means something to him.

Man really you calling 17, 18 year olds cowards for chosing to go elsewhere? Before these KIDS committ or sign they pick about 5 or 6 schools, remember my friend they're just KIDS. And as far as Spears go all he has been towards LSU is negetive and always praising Nick Saban that is why I said he's not an LSU alum he's a Saban alum.

King Nola let me be more specific and direct about who I am calling cowards. I love what Kenny Young did when he left state, upfront about his intentions, LSU got in on him late, he remained faithful to his original commitment, and pursued a degree with more national standing than the one he would have received at LSU. I am not talking about the kids who fall under this umbrella. However the Hootie Jones, Cam Robinson, Dylan Moses, etc "play school" kids who simply leave to state to go to a rival program to spite their home state...yeah those types are who I was referring to.

After reading all the "truth hurts" bullshite on this board and FB, I wonder if anyone has even gone to see how LSU compares to the rest of CFB in terms of W/L over the past 5 years? I would agree that the program is not championship caliber recently but mediocre? I'm stunned at how many people (Spears included) probably don't get what that really means.

25-16 over the last 5 years. Mediocre.

All of a sudden LSU being 71.4% winning pecentage doesn't matter because it is too high to complain about so ONLY SEC games are the ones that count. Wins over Wisconsin, TCU, Louisville, Iowa, Texas Tech, and other ooc games don't matter. When you have to manipulate numbers and ignore games of that magnitude to suit a narative then your narative is flawed. Get real Marcus.

Fair enough, Nix. But that ultimately means that the SEC is mediocre. Because other than Bama, no one really has a much better conf record than 25-16.

How spoiled we have become. Marcus was fortunate enough to play for Saban, so his opinion is scewed somewhat. Miles was okay until the Championship game against Bama. O hasn't even had a full season yet and everyone wants to run him off. Alleva wanted Jimbo, but the media blew the lid off of that one and everyone involved had to save face. Herman was never coming here. Fedora would have been a joke. O was really the only logical choice given the circumstances. Give him a chance to bounce back. He's not the worst coach ever: That would be Mr. Hudson "Curley" Hallman! And I sat my arse in Tiger Stadium every game I could and witnessed the Dark Age of LSU football. Knowing we would lose but cheering for our team because that's what true fans do! Let's all stop being spoiled, whiny arse fans, and support our Tigers no matter what! It got turned around before, and it can be again!

I Agee with most of that but Alleva had Jimbo coming the first time until he got salty eyed with the players caring Miles off the field

I never recalled a LSU that was this undisciplined and ill prepared under Coach Miles. I Agree we needed a change but didn't and still don't think Coach O is an upgrade or equal to Miles.

How many teams did Miles field that had this many young players? We all got to see what Aranda can do with a defense with depth last year. Now look at how watered down we look this year. Give them 2 years to work it out before we send them packing. Geaux Tigers!!

Screw this dude for advocating O to become the coach and then blast us on TV saying we are an average program. We know this Marcus, we don't need you telling the rest of the world

He's a commentator. It's his job to comment. Don't be so sensitive, especially when he's absolutely right.
