LSU head coach Paul Mainieri announced Monday afternoon that junior right-handed pitcher Doug Norman will miss the remainder of the season.

Norman suffered an elbow injury against Maryland on Sunday that will require season-ending surgery. Per LSUSports.net:

“Our worst fears were realized when we found out today that Doug’s elbow injury will force him to miss the rest of this season,” Mainieri said. “Doug is a great competitor, and he will meet head-on this next challenge in his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with him as he goes through the surgery and begins his rehab.”

Norman suffered the injury while throwing a pitch in the seventh inning of Sunday’s 9-5 LSU win over Maryland. He has made 47 career appearances on the mound for the Tigers, posting a 6-2 record with a 2.82 ERA in 70.1 innings.

Damn! A big blow to our team! Feel bad for Doug! I knew as soon as he went down it wasn't good. A great set up man, he will be missed. I wish Doug a full and speedy recovery and we'll see you back next year!
