re: How much credit will people give Pittman if we win 8+ games

I don't like picking on Sam. I really want to be able to celebrate success with him. Cathartic doesn't even begin to describe 2021.
I don't expect a whole lot but I'm hoping for the miracle. I think we'll score more points but our defense is going to get torched. Not sure what else you can expect when you pull out spending like we have.

Sam is gone at the end of the season regardless, IMO
I agree. Our schedule is just too damn hard for him to have any chance of 8+ wins IMO. We will most likely hit 6-7 and everyone will be ready to move on.

Since evidently the Hunts and Waltons are beginning to help with FB nil, several believe that Petrino with a great NIL would do wonderful as a HC again. Takes out the "Vibrant" personality in his coaching

Supposedly the hiring of Cal has brought a lot more money to the table overall, including the Waltons. How true that is remains to be seen.

The Waltons and Hunts met with Cal, Hy, BOT members and Sam...
The Stephens, and the Tysons did the same for basketball.
The Hunts were not aware of how bad nil was for football evidently, fwiw

Petrino's second stint at Louisville was hamstrung by his inability to hire assistant coaches. He had his sons and son in laws making up the largest percentage of the staff. The rest were the usual suspects from his coaching career.
While NIL has decreased the importance of a coach's recruiting ability, the coach's actually ability to coach and develop guys for the next level is starting to increase. Sure these guys want to make as much money as possible in the three years they are in college, but they want to continue making money in the years after that.

CBMFP is the head coach in waiting on the Hill. Should have never been fired in the first place.

I actually LIKE the situation we have. A non ego maniac like Sam just might be able to provide the support that Petrino and WIlliams need to get something done.
That said, there's no way we win 8 games this year. We should debate snowballs in hell as there's more chance of that.

Pittman is nothing without competent coordinators.
I think that would have applied to Saban or most any head coach.
With a decent OL performance lady year, I still believe we would have won 8 games.

QB still did not have it between the ears as needed...
He checked out prior to the season with lack of conditioning, etal..

Arkansas should have won 7-8 games last year considering that Pittman is terrible in one score games.
I got them going 3-9 this season.

Where Sam messed up was taking the big contract for himself and leaving his coordinators out to dry. Odom completely quit giving a shite after Sam took the bag.
Sam would be great in a GM role dealing mostly with personnel. He is a people person and in the age of NIL and the portal you need a coach focused mainly on that. Pay the HC less and the OC and DC more. I wouldn't be surprised to see CFB shift to having more setups like that.

ODOM's D was dog poop the last season he was here man. Terrible. He we on his way out regardless looking for a HC job.
I agree that Sam took advantage of the wins.. but who wouldn't?
It is odd that we have some kind of expectation of Sam that we wouldn't for another coach simply because of his "Love of Arkansas"...

Of course, I defended him when he did it (wasn't happy with it but understood). Smart thing to do but doomed outcome besides getting his money.

It isn't odd, he sold himself as a guy who would share the wealth. There were different expectations in place because he put them there. He isn't like any other SEC coach. He was a career OL guy and sold himself as leaning on his coords and position coaches more but taking great care of them. Love of the helmet was only part of his sell.
I'm suggesting (musing on really) a format that would allow him to stay as "HC" but in a role more suited to his talents. It's not going to happen because he will want the buyout but I believe it would be a superior format to the current one no matter who the HC is. The game has changed and team management will have to change with it.
I think Sam is the perfect counter balance to BMFP. It's a shame he is being paid to much to change into such a role. I can dream though.

And I caught hell all year for being critical of KJ, while acknowledging he was running around for his life because of the OL. A college coach doesn't even have to be tremendously talented if he is a leader. KJ never was.
