With people transferring in and out whenever they'd like. I wonder if teams will start recruiting depth players who are "team" first and will help build a culture. Sort of like having tenured players on a basketball team where one and dones come in and out consistently.

With the players we have committed i think there is a lot of that going on. We have what two guys from the dmv area?

Replacing a top 150 prospect with a guy not even rated by any recruiting service. Hope that doesn't become a trend.

I mean….in general yes. You know who was even better at it? Nick Saban. And he recruited Woodyard and not a backup at Charlotte.

Clearly I know Nick was elite at it. I’m just saying in general most Alabama fans are a little over reactive and most don’t know shite but recruiting rankings and it shows.

At the end of the day Woodyard didn’t leave due to Kam coming here. Maybe I am naïve but I am going to trust the coach that made it to the NC game last year and beat Texas when we couldn’t

It’s pretty obvious to me Deboer knew some DB’s were going to leave. Hence the depth. It’s not a one or other thing.

I suppose. I just think it’s easier to keep the guys you have on campus. He stayed enrolled through the coaching change and went through Spring. Why is a top 150 recruit feeling after one spring like he doesn’t have a future with the program?

Obviously things like this are going to happen, but a staff works their arse off to get a top 150 guy on campus. You got this guy and he was bought in enough to see through until now. Sometimes you have to work those relationships and show them you have plans to develop them or what they need to get on the field.

Idk. If this is a one off it’s fine I suppose. But we’re at a high enough level where we don’t have to win with the island of misfit toys.

According to this Woodyard may have entered a couple of days ago. I don't know if the NCAA works on Sunday.

quote:

The NCAA's compliance office has 48 hours to process a player's paperwork for the transfer portal, which can mean that a player's name will appear in the portal 48 hours after submitting their paperwork. For example, if an undergraduate player submits their name on January 2, their name may appear in the portal on January 3, 4, or 5.

never played a snap for us so I didn't really see how it's a big loss. That class was so stacked with dbs, he was probably always going to be the odd man or for playing time just among the players in his own class, with Red Morgan getting playing time in spring over him. It's a one season world now, in not gonna get bent out of shape when a player who wasnt going to contribute next year leaves, that's just the way college football is now

Is there some report out there the staff didn’t try to keep him or something? Almost everybody on this team was recruited by a different staff. would you feel this way if he had left after saban retired? I don’t think it’s a bad move to stick it out through spring and see how you fit with a program and where you are on the depth chart. Then you can transfer like he is obviously doing

The kid has potential. I was really hoping to see it develop at Alabama. Looking forward to seeing this young coaching staff prove themselves. I think we have huge potential with the current roster.

This may be the one kid i wasnt high on out of last years class. A kid that runs a 4.7 in the secondary im fine with losing.

I am not sure how Deboer will work out long term but for him to have a chance he needs to have players that buy in to what he wants.

These players jumping ship are part of the reason Saban hung it up. Recruit a player once and still have to recruit them every off season to stay.

For those that do not remember Saban was blasted in the media and a website was dedicated to him about oversigning. He gutted the roster on his arrival.

I don’t claim to have any “inside” information, just my gut instinct. So many of these kids (especially skill set players) come in and expect to start from Day One. Some of those type guys can’t take the bruised ego that they’re not quite ready.

I still contend that some of these guys (not all, but some) get really bad advice from from family or “family friends” or handlers who whisper in their ear that the player is being done wrong, he should leave and “get a better deal somewhere else”,

Or, he may just miss his girlfriend back home and wants to play closer to home.
