Serious Clark? When did that ever happen?

Deferring to the second half means the team won the toss and wants the opening possession of the second half. There is no option for that team to change their mind on what they want to do after halftime. THEY RECEIVE THE BALL REGARDLESS IN THE SECOND HALF!

There is always a jump ball to open a basketball game.

Walrus answered my question off the bat so there was no need to make yourself sound stupid.

You can keep saying this, but I'm telling you the rules.

If a team defers in the first half, they are doing so to take the ball in the second half, but they do not HAVE to.

Like I said. You win the toss, you elect to accept or defer. If you accept, you get to pick between 4 options (kick, receive, defend end zone A or end zone B). If teams accept, they should always take the option of receiving, otherwise the other team will get the ball twice.

Know the rules before you call somebody stupid.

A jump ball, as in a held ball/tied ball, whatever you want to call it. I call it a jump ball, because in the NBA they actually have another jump. In college, it just alternates possession, thus the original jump does zero to determine possession in the second half, unless there is not another jump ball, after the original one.

LSU won the toss years back. Trev Faulk chosee to kick instead of defer. We kicked off both halves. I think it was against Miss State. It’s the only time I’ve seen that in my years.
