He came here from Korea in 2nd grade and started watching Auburn football with me. Became a big fan of all things Auburn. He applied to several schools, but Auburn and Purdue were the top rated flight schools. He loves all things Auburn so it was an easy decision.

His father died of diabetes long ago. I was the Auburn influence, but my daughter's husband who was a Top Gun Marine fighter pilot got him interested in flying.

I'm sure he will do well.

God bless you for stepping in and being a strong and dependable male influence in this young man’s life when he needed it. We need more of that. Shoot, I know I wish I had that growing up.

Hope you guys get to watch many, many more AU games together!

We didn't miss a game even during the Harsin years, painful as that was. Thank goodness for Bruce Pearl.

Congrats to you and your nephew. I would be remiss if I did not ask his 40 time.

We did the tour a couple of years ago and it's a great program. It's kind of like the Delta Flight School.

He got into a few other programs, but their airline affiliations were weak. It came down to Auburn or Purdue.

It's a long trip from NY to Auburn.

Funny thing happened a couple of days ago. My wife and I were eating at Korean hand made noodle place and an older Korean guy walks in wearing a shirt with an Auburn logo. I said "War Eagle," but drew a blank stare.

My wife explained it to him in Korean and he said his daughter made it for him, but she had no Auburn affiliation either. She just liked the logo.

Question for the board. We need advice on our nephew's move to Auburn when classes start in August. My step-daughter is a Stony Brook and lives in a dorm, but at the end of a semester, she has to move out completely. Clearly, if Auburn dorms are the same way, being in NY, is a serious hassle.

I'm thinking he needs to have an apartment off campus if the Auburn rules are similar to Stony Brook.

>50 years ago, I lived in a boarding house so when the summer break rolled around I just kept the room, no moving required.

Any suggestions on off campus housing?

I lived at Plainsman Apartments on Mag back in my day (right next door to the Catholic church location at the time who have since moved… I think the Methodist church bought that vacated property).

One bedroom with two single beds… one bath… one combined kitchenette/living area… cinder-block walls… heating and air provided by a single window-unit in the living space. Approx $200 per month 1980-85 ($100 per roommate if double occuoancy).

BEST time of my life. My friends at those apts then are still my brothers 40 years later.

Now college towns and colleges make it their overt purpose to gouge students with tuition and living.

I feel bad for kids these days.

(My total tuition per year at Auburn at its highest? $1440 for the year ($480 per quarter) out-of-state.)

Also if he is going in August he should be attending camp war Eagle in a couple weeks. So you need to make sure he gets registered for that.

Housing I think was chosen last week but could be mistaken. I know bama’s was last week because my step son is going there in the fall.

If yall missed it there are tons of off campus apartments that are basically on campus. That’s where my son stays in off campus apartments. A little pricey for me but his mom worked out the details out.

Yeah, I'm thinking off campus will offer the most flexibility. I was thinking we'd go down in July, but maybe June would be better. It's a long drive from NY to Auburn with all of the stuff needed to set-up house keeping.

Saw some houses for rent with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths which would work out okay with a couple of roommates sharing the cost if it is permitted.

Camp War Eagle info

It’s a must for new students. Most would be lost without this 2-3 day orientation.

I'm sure they will meet since it is not a huge program is a popular guy. He'll probably be the only Korean there.

He really likes the South. Wants to go hunting and stuff. Visited my daughter in NC and he was ready to move there right away.

I lived at Tiger Terrace on West Glenn Avenue. It was a great location and an easy walk to my classes.

Has your nephew settled on his apartment or dorm yet? We are going down in the middle of June to look around for living arrangements including maybe a house rental for him and a roommate or two.

back in the mid-90s, the thought was if you had a group of friends also going to Auburn, an apartment was the better route to go or a house if you could get one but they were tough to come by. if you were going solo or didn't know many people / have many friends, the dorm was the better option because you'd get put with people and you could hang out with them.

we did an apartment my freshmen year and then lucked into a house on, uh, Warrior Court the rest of the time I was there. it was right by the railroad tracks and behind what was Gabby's and then Tiger Time and then it's changed a few more times and I don't know what's there now. the Spur gas station was across the street and Papa John's setup shop very close by while we lived there. so cheap beer, cigarettes and pizza were constant.
