I edited. Feels like it would be hard to prove that him not testifying had an impact considering it was never spoken out loud in the jury room, but I guess I’ll set my pride aside to be safe ...

And the thing is, they have to go through all of it for the evidence of everything. So all the witnesses (including the girl, God love her) had to explain in specific detail the individual sex acts that were happening and for how long and what followed immediately after and so on and so forth. Basically just tried to discredit the girl’s story but she was very believable.
The defendant did not take the stand on his own behalf which we were of course informed is not an admission of guilt because they have the right to not self-incriminate. The defense called no witnesses. ...

Unfortunately capital punishment was not on the table.
From start to finish, the whole process took 3 business days. I think we deliberated for probably 4 hours or so on the first 2 counts. Then about another hour on sentencing later on. ...

The girl did testify. She’s 18 now. She was raped many times between the age of 3 and 13. At age 13, a woman from church who was taking care of her just about all the time was able to get temporary custody (and ultimately adopted her). Praise God for that woman.
