The announcers acted like it was some kind of clever trick. Doesn't anybody who played high-school ball for like 2 weeks know how to tell who the eligible receivers are? It's not that frikkin complicated.
They just screwed up. We didn't trick em....

Also, if player safety is really #1 priority, outlaw crossing routes, and escort the OC off the field whenever these hits occur....

Don't care if it was correct application of the rule or not.
It was either a bullshite call or a bullshite rule. I'm certain of that. And if it's the rule, we need to fix it ASAP....
