Georgia head coach Kirby Smart recently discussed the SEC and said why the teams should be ranked ahead of their upcoming matchup against Kentucky...
quote:

“I personally think every SEC team should be ranked," Smart said during his press conference on Tuesday. "I can guarantee you there are some teams that don’t want to play them that are ranked. I mean, I don’t — I literally have no idea what you’re referencing because every team we play in the SEC is good enough to beat us and whether they’re ranked or not, I could care less."

I agree that (anlmost) any SEC team could beat them any given Saturday.

Every coach in every conference will say the same thing about their own schedule and conference.

No they shouldn’t. He’s just trying to justify his soft schedule.

As a Gamecock fan... we should not be ranked.

I think there the SEC has leveled out some and teams are more on par with each other this year. The top of tier SEC teams have stepped back a bit. But the SEC didn't fair well the first couple of weeks against OoC opponents. So I don't agree with his statement.

It is the calm before the storm. The 12 team playoff will cause a storm for it will finally expose the separation of the SEC and any other conference.

Polls are simply successful marketing tools.

He's not wrong... the fact that CO stayed ranked after being exposed by Oregon, tells you everything you need to know about rankings.
