Auburn brought defensive heat from the jump and then warmed up on offense in the second half to defeat Florida, 86-67, in the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament championship game.

The 4-seed Tigers earned their first SEC tourney title since 2019, and the third in program history.

The 6-seed Gators became big game for the hungry Tigers, who smothered their foes on defense throughout and lit them up from inside and out on offense in the second.

Johnni Broome led the Tigers, who shot 64 percent from the field in the second half, with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Denver Jones added 11 points and Chad Baker-Mazara had 10, but the offensive attack was balanced. Nine Auburn players scored six or more points.
