Worst Offensive Play-Calls in UGA History...

I'll go ahead and induct the 2016 I-mac toss sweep/stuff job against Vandy on to the list. Not sure exactly where it ranks all-time though.

-Need 1 yard to keep hope alive
-the call is a toss sweep to a 125 lb, 5 foot tall wide receiver
-to run to short side of field
-toward the SEC's leading tackler
-while Chubb, the third leading rusher in school history attempts to block air

We should complile a list of worst play calls. What else belongs on there at the top?

Who happens to be our most dynamic playmaker.

And while I tend to agree with your assessment, I'm pretty sure the play called for our players to actually block at the point of attack.

Thank you for your patented lol-emoticon drive-by post.

I guess I'll put you down as voting to remove this play from the list then, since you aren't adding anything to it.

The pass play that got intercepted yesterday wasn't that great IMO

How about the 37 runs up the A Gap that netted 17 yards vs Nichols? Can we lump that group into the conversation?

How about USCe 2014?

-first and goal on 5 yard line, with Gurley II in the backfield.
-But his number never even gets called
-so we settle for a tying FG attempt
-that misses
-and we lose
-to Steve Spurrier
-again
-our favorite past time

The pass yesterday

The pass against so car on the three yard line with Gurley, the number 2 leading rusher, standing by Mason

OK, I'll play. Our final play in the 2012 SECCG vs Alabama with Gurley in the backfield trying to block the DE who tipped the fade pass that had little chance of success.

You know having a star tailback block on a quick throw is pretty standard, right?

Yes, but I would rather find a way to get the ball to my star tailback. Rather than trying to complete an improbable fade pass, I would have rolled Murray out, Gurley slough off a block on the DE and catch a short pass at the goal-line for a TD. If the pass isn't open, Murray runs it in for a TD.

What was most impressive to me about that final drive is that it was a scenario they'd clearly rehearsed and prepared a plan for if it was ever needed. It just fell apart right at the end.

Compare that to how Eason and Kirby and his crew looked yesterday though....when they got ball back with 40 seconds, 1 timeout, and one last chance. It was a keystone cops impression.

Yeah, I don't think you could be more wrong on this one. Play call was fine, it just got tipped.

For me, one of the ones in recent memory was the 3rd and goal toss sweep we fumbled against UK in 2009. Our RB and QB were within 2 feet of each other. Not good.

You wanted us to find a way to get the ball to our star tailback with 9 seconds left and we had no timeouts. That gives us one play. The one we ran would have given us 2 if the ball wouldn't have been tipped.

You have to take 2 shots at the end zone there. No offense, but your idea of that play call would have been the worst one in UGA history.

Auburn in 2001: running Jasper Sanks with no timeouts left

Arkansas in 2010: 4 verticals on 3rd and short in a tie game. Murray gets sacked, Arkansas gets the ball back and wins.

Colorado in 2010: the flea-flicker where it looked like Caleb King was pitching the ball back and fumbles when we were in FG range.

2016: take your pick. The Godwin wildcat pass against Auburn and the 2nd down pass yesterday stand out.

The run on the goal line to Sanks against Auburn in 2001 is up there, but the 2014 USCe game takes the cake. With 1st and goal at the 4, you give it to Gurley four times. If they stop him four times, you tip your hat to them.

Yea, I get tired of up the middle too. So, to mix it up, try a short pass out wide. Its ironic, but the very thing I wanted them to do, got intercepted and we lost the game. I'd rather lose by opening it up than to be insanely predictable.

Anyone remember the 05 Florida game when we tried a qb draw every 3rd and long with Joe T?

Like it caught them off guard the first two times and we got a first but we did it over and over and they figured it out

If you had actually read my post, you would see that I called for a short pass to Gurley after he sloughed off a block on the TE. If the pass had been incomplete, we would have been no worse off than with an incomplete fade route only the pass would have been a lot shorter with a much greater chance of success.

I'll play.

Similar to yours Jeff, we were first and goal against Clemson and attempt a pass with mason which gets called for intentional grounding.... gurley never touches the ball

Although not Offense the pooch kick against GT....with the lead and very little time on the clock.....to a team that can't pass very well....was the single worst splay call I can remember.

Also..any play that was a designed keeper with Matt Stafford or Aaron Murray.
