Why do I get the sneaking suspicion that we're behind the 8 ball?

Remember during Gurley-gate when we spent a couple of weeks projecting that, any day now, we would hear a verdict, that we were just waiting on the NCAA to plod it's way through the process? And then we found out like the Tuesday before the Florida game that our illustrious AD hadn't even compiled and sent in the paperwork yet?

Why do I feel like Seth Emerson's source is frighteningly correct, that we haven't actually sent out an offer to anyone and that we haven't even retained a search firm yet?

I swear to God above, if we make it to Tuesday of next week no further along in this process... The sheer incompetence of this whole administration is going to give me an aneurysm.

It wouldn't shock me in the LEAST bit if we haven't hired a firm yet.

It would shock me even more if we haven't been in heavy talks with kirby (or his agent) to begin the proceedings.

For as incompetent as GM is, there is simply no way he woke up saturday, decided to fire richt sunday, and hasn't even BEGAN reaching out to coaches yet. Surely not.

It's the Georgia way...

From someone on another board...

By the way, everyone who thinks we have some grand plan in place, God bless you - eternal optimists. Name one time we've had a grand plan (that would benefit the product on the field) since the change in administration, circa 2005?

If we make it to next Tuesday without a coach, McGarity is gone. There's no way you can fire Richt if you sit at least have one or two names lined up. He's an idiot, but I don't think he's completely incompetent.

I think we all missed the boat entirely firing Richt; his product on the field was just symptomatic of an even more fatal issue: our administration is as reactionary as they come and doesn't have a single proactive, enterprising bone in its body.

Its the Georgia way...McGarity is a bungling idiot and since he obvoiusly did not have a plan,we now have the Larry Walker and Don Leebern clans with their fingers in the pie...THE FREAKIN last thing you want to happen.

knowing mcgarity, I couldn't be more grateful that boosters are involved. If it was strictly up to mcgarity we probably would have already sent pruitt walking and hired mullen.

People who care about the program want smart (or herman, or really anyone but mullen). If it takes meddling from boosters to get it, fine.

Exactly. They are fine having a fundraiser for a program instead of winning championships.

What happened to the team of secret undercover search firm agents that had been working behind Richt's back for over a month??

That was your stance yesterday, when you flipped out at anyone who suggested this thing was just getting started. Remember?

Walker amd Leeburn aren't folks I would consider smart or savvy when it comes ro involvemenf in our athletic dept. But they are probably more competent than McGarity...which ain't saying much.

That was before I woke up and remembered that we're UGA and we don't have the foresight to pull that.

Offering a counter-belief to what you suggested is "flipping out." Got it.

This. The less involvement our AD has in athletic decision-making, the better.

How shitty is that?

Boy I hope you're wrong. And that we had a plan in place to get the coach we wanted prior to canning CMR.

Anything less than that would be gross negligence of the highest (lowest) order imaginable.

So yeah - I'm starting to get nervous.

Buddy of mine just brough up a good point: Assuming Pruitt is a non-starter because McGarity is throwing a temper tantrum, that means if Kirby is even actually being offered that Muschamp is the rumored DC, right? And yet, that means Muschamp (under contract at Auburn) has to also be contacted. And if Muschamp's hiring is a condition of Kirby agreeing to come to town, that means we now have to wait on our AD to contact Muschamp (which we're not sure McGarity even wants to do, per rumors)and to agree to jump jobs again (and not take the South Carlina HC opening) before we can even get Kirby through the door.

And that's just addressing the side of the ball that actually works; no telling what the hell or how long we take to get the offense figured out.

And all that responsibility falls on Mr. I fired a 15 year head coach on Sunday but had no answers to provide at the press conference I arranged on Monday.

There's a plan and the plan is the same as it always has been: maximize profit. The plan has already been discussed extensively on this board; most likely they will hire DC, Kirby Smart, and pay him less than Richt since he has zero HC experience. They will go through the motions of the hiring process with multiple interviews, etc. but they already know who they want to hire.

The one thing we should never forget as Georgia fans: the goal of our administration is to maximize profits. Winning a NC is not a priority. Increasing our academic standing is likely more of a priority than winning a NC in football. As long as we win enough to keep the money rolling in they will be happy which is why we should have just kept Richt until he was ready to retire on his own terms. Translation: if we do actually make a home run hire, for instance someone like Chip Kelly, etc., I will totally shocked and will happily eat my crow.

Most likely scenario is that we get Smart without Pruitt or Muschamp imo

Yep, my guess is Pruitt will fill the DC void at Bama. And our admins would never approve of hiring hot-head Muschamp. What I am more concerned about is who Smart hires as his OC.

I have yet to see any large university bureaucracy not turn a football coaching hire into a clusterfrick. We will be no different.

Seems like the only realistic compromise and a needless one at that. Figures we would have an opportunity to actually move the program ahead and, instead, we're going to spin our wheels because Pruitt hurt someone's feelings.

Chill people. It's Kirby - always has been. It wont be official until after SECCG. Which does put us a little bit behind the 8-ball for both recruiting and assistants. My hope is Pruitt stays which I do think is doubtful. Dont think Muschamp is the answer but also dont think that will break Kirby's back.

Take a step back for a second and think this through. Kirby is the right choice, he has the regional connections and the experience. He may struggle to learn the "management" process at first as opposed to just focusing on Xs and Os, but he'll get there. He will be a good coach, although Richt set a very high bar (that was moving down not up) and it will take years before we can compare the two.

Chill.
