That game and weekend were unbelievable.The game was Labor Day nt and the 1st at Sanford for the new 82k expansion I believe.(edit it was '81 on the expansion my bad)
School hadn't started but EVERYBODY was already back on campus and the parties started on Friday and Saturday and lasted into the late hours Monday.It was my wildest FB weekend ever.
Clemson was our biggest rival back then bar none.The '83,'84,'85 and '86 games were ALL tight and seemed to come down to the last minute.

1971 GA-FL was my first. I was 8 at the time. I remember attending the game but not much else. I also remember being upset that my Father didn't take me to the Gator Bowl game vs. UNC at the end of the season, but took my oldest sister (16 at the time) to the game. It was the right decision, and she ended up being the first of three UGA grads in the family, but it seemed unfair to my 8 year old mind.

Correct on buying the lights. I don't know if in full, or in lieu of normal game payment, but I clearly remember the network buying the lights.

I went to that Gator Bowl in 1971. I was recently back from Vietnam and healed up. That was my first game to see live since the 1967 season.
